Divx and Xvid Question
I'm thinking of getting a Divx/Xvid DVD player.
Will it play all the different codecs? Are certain players better than others? Does it need its codecs updating? Many thanks

I have the samsung dvd-hr734 dvd player and it can play divx. I've played 2 vidx so far and they worked fine. To my knowledge they don't need updating. The quality is quite good but there seems to be a weird kind of interlacing artifact that comes and goes as its playing. But overall much better than watching on the telly.

I have the Philips DVD5960/P and its brilliant.
Play Divx 3.x, 4.x, 5.x 6.x, Ultra, Divx on demand and Xvid. MP3 aswell. Can play off USB flash drive, and upscale to 720p and 1080i. Completely brilliant and at £39.99 in Currys its a bargain. |

I had several and I've found the cheapos to be more tolerant when it comes to what they'll play.

Go with the Philips.
Quality pays off. |

These cheap ones offer some good features, but sometimes closers analysis shows them to be cheap for a reason and don't even last you a year.
