Do the judges wear ear pieces?

I was wondering whether the judges wore ear pieces during the auditions process, where they are told by the producers what to say? Through these ear pieces, the producers tell the judges how to act and who to put through, and the specific questions to ask people. For e.g. if a guy comes in with a sob story, the judges ask: "Why are you auditioning?" or "Tell us something interesting about you?"... or if a crap person comes in, the judges are told to ask: "Who do you aspire to be in 5 years time?" or "Do you reeaaally think you can win the X Factor?", to take the p*ss out of them.

I did actually wonder how they magically know which questions to ask.

It's obvious they are briefed they don't even need earpieces they are probably just told before each bit of filming begins.

All the people are auditioned before the judges stage remember :) so all the sob stories are written down then they (producers or whoever) decide which go through to the televised judge stage.

They have all the info- name/ age/ key points of interest from application forms etc in front of them before the person comes in. Its all about story boarding and people need to realise that the winner of X factor has already been chosen and will be edited and presented in a way that allows them to win the show.

There is NOTHING left to chance on X factor

They gave away the fact ear pieces are involved - Fearne did a sketch on Xtra where she was telling the judges what to say via an earpiece. Now if that isn't what they do, why would xtra factor suddenly come up with her doing that. Strange ...

I'm pretty sure at lease one judge has talkback to the gallery, but yes they do have what they call "cribsheets" that tell them what to ask and who to put through, and are pre-briefed before the person walks in.

Thats how it worked on Britians got talent as well and its the producers who sit on the seats to the left of the judges.

Yeah there is always a producer with the judges, a producer in the gallery, and a producer with Dermot and crew on the outside. The gallery is situated in a room just off of the judges room.

Do the judges decide who to put trhough alone, or are they told by the producers who to put through, and producers say which judge says "yes" or "no".

Producers choice as its all pre-storyboarded. They often have one judge going against the grain to make it look authentic
