Hi i bought a hd dvd today to try on my 940
but it does not play
daft question but is it supposed to

From a quick look at the specs - No.

It can record to hard disk or to standard definition (SD_ DVD. I'm sure that means it can play SD DVD too. It can upscale from an SD source to HD internally which may or may not give an improvement in the display of SD on a HD TV.

What it won't do is read a HD DVD. It will need to have a HD-DVD drive for that. Probably best get a seperate player for that, or maybe a Sony PS3 games console if you'd use it for games too.
