I've been digging-out some vintage equipment! I bought a deck like that in 1982. That and my Yamaha record deck have been dusted off and pressed into service to 'digitise' my music collection.

While doing so it occured to me we no longer 'see' things working. In the past we had reel-to-reel tape, cassette, record decks, even on some CD players you could watch the disc spinning. No longer.

You don't see HDDs but at least they moved. Now flash drives are here - no moving parts!

With our radios you can't even look through the slots at the back to see the glow of those valves inside.

Ah well, fewer moving parts = greater reliability. Mind you modern equipment doesn't have time to reach the end of it's life before it's outdated & superseded.

Now, where's that fast forward button.......

Brilliant!

I am searching for the perfect Revox B77 tape deck. Sadly, "er indoors" does not quite get it so I am fighting a long uphill battle

Fear not, I'm keeping the original media & equipment. It's to digitise and make portable my music.

Please don't have me stoned to death.

At the same time as converting loads of my music to MP3 for my Zen to keep me happy during many flights around Europe, I have now rediscovered vinyl and bought the first black plastic in over 20 years!

Whilst listening to 'The Light Programme', 'Family Favourites' or 'Sing Something Simple?'

Whilst we all indulge ourselves in nostalgia, I am still feeling very sore indeed at seeing secondhand Quad valve amps for sale in a shop in Salisbury last year for £600!!!... To think that I sold mine, together with a Garrard turntable and SME arm, for well under £100 fifteen years ago. Hindsight, and lack of female obsession with how something looks, would make us all much richer and contented!
