Connection Issues (Techno Phobe)
Hi all, I have a connection issue with the following items
1) 37inch LG LCD TV 2) Sky-Box (Standard) soon to be HD box 3) Cyberhome DVR 1600 DVD Recorder 4)Sony Bravia Dav-DZ231 Home theatre DVD player 5) Digi Sender I need to know how to connect all up together and be able to record via the Cyberhome DVR and play it back from that device but through the Sony home Theatre? None of the config diagrams I have viewed seem to help and even on Sonys own site the unit I have Dav-DZ231 does not seem to have a support page! even though it invites you to it? if you see what I mean, Please help? Thanks in anticipation sk THE cat PS I have no terrestrial connection IE no ariel, I view only via sky.

seeing as the source is the sky box....
scart to the dvd recorder, then scart from the dvd recorder to the home theater? does the home theater have optical inputs? then shove them in too. output from the theater to the tv (hdmi/scart/component) but i would definitely provision for hdmi cabling though. edit... dont think your recorder handles hd so when u get your hd box hdmi that to your tv, then have optical to the theater system... |

Once again Sony let the side down with poor connectivity on their Home Theatre systems.
However, here goes: Sky TV out ---> Cyberhome AV2 (input) Cyberhome AV1 (output) TV AV1 (an RGB scart) Sony HDMI ---> TV HDMI Sky audio out ---> Sony AUX input left/right audio in when playing DVDs use the sony and you'll get great HDMI pics and full 5.1 surround sound only use the Cyberhome for recording, can record from Sky using AV2 (this DVDR poss redundant when Sky HD fitted) When you have Sky HD: Sky HDMI ---> TV HDMI (1) sony HDMI ---> TV HDMI (2) if no optical in on the sony then keep the audio connection for Sky HD as for Sky above Rgds, Scorp |

Hi All, the Sony Dav-DZ231 is still in its box unopened and I think that is where it will stay! I had doubts when I bought it.
So I will take it back to Currys and they can keep it! I need some advice then, I need a Home theatre system with loads of connections including HDMI in as well as out because my LG 37incher only has one HDMI in! This would cause a problem when I go Sky HD with only 1 HDMI input on the LCD So I was thinking I will need to run HD from Skybox to Homw theatre with HDMI in and out to LCD? is this feasible? and if it is can you recommend a Home Theatre with HDMI in and out that also incoporates a DVD recorder as well as just playing DVDs? thanks in advance sk THE cat PS Max spend £300 |

Hi, the first thing you need to consider is whether you REALLY need a DVD recorder. With Sky HD you can record 2 channels at once while watching a previously recorded program - for most time-shifting needs, this is more than enough.
Yes, I also have a DVDR alongside my Sky HD but I do archive a lot of sporting events onto DVD for my mates. For most people, they assume they need a DVDR to replace the VCR but, in fact they don't! With Sky HD you dont have to hunt around for tapes/discs or finalise them or whatever..............and you get series link and ........ Look, I'm not a Sky salesman but you need to really tst yourself with this question before diving down the DVDR route. I would suggest Sky HD, a good amp (separate from any DVD payer or recorder) and speakers. Use this for a while then decide if you need to add a DVD player (with HDMI) or DVDR with HDMI. By building your system in this way you can really see if you have a need rather than a desire for a DVDR. Rgds, Scorp ps - I still have a VCR as well but only use this for playback of old tapes (or for that odd occasion when I need to record 4 channels at once! |
