Best 70's tunes please.
(Probably been done hundreds of times before, but what the hell...)
Feel free to include any memories relating to your chosen song(s).

Here are a couple to get us going.

The Motors - Airport.
Remember my brother had a Motor's poster on his wall at the time... a smiling Jayne Mansfield with the slogan "I lost my head over the motors."

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=baLilwDcjko

Gary Gilmore's eyes - The adverts
After being told the story of Gary Gilmore, I would actually cry when this record was played!(I was only 7).So its not really a favourite just memorable.

Good idea, what would any decent '70's compilation be without a track from these?

ELO - Mr blue sky

(I found the original promo vid )

Why do I feel rather embarrassed to say I own a ELO greatest hits?
They made great feel-good songs.

So assuming you are male, was it Frieda or Agnetha you liked best?

If you're female was it Benny or ........errr forget it.

I knew there was a connection but she was not in the band.
Looked it up on Wiki.
Song was inspired by the Campari ad she was in. I vaguely remember it. Especially the "Luton airport" bit.
Funnily enough Lorraine Chase ended up working with Deena Payne (who was a member of Cats UK and is Viv in Emmerdale)

Ah, I must have been thinking of the advert. What a coincidence that they both ended up in Emmerdale!

Hmm, then again maybe not....perhaps Chase rang up Payne twenty years later and said "look, I'm down on my luck. When I gave you the inspiration for that seventies hit, you said if there was anything you could do in return...."

It was quite a decade music wise the seventies. Such a mixture of music in the charts. Something for every age group. I remember rock music from Alice Cooper and Hawkwind. Deep Purple, Black Sabbath. From the early seventies. Then around 1972 we had glamour rock from David Bowie, Marc Bolan, The Sweet and Roxy Music. The West Coast sound in the middle seventies with acts like The Eagles, Linda Ronstadt and disco music from Earth Wind and Fire, The Commodores etc. Then into punk and New Wave mid seventies.
That was the thing I remember about the music back then was the variety that was on offer.

Yes, what with Celebrity Squares and Blankety Blank ending she was probably quite desperate.
