Sony 40w2000 , Panasonic DMR-EX75 connection problems
Hi
Any help with the problem below would be much appreciated. The equipment: TV: Sony 40w2000 (bought yesterday) DVD recorder: Panasonic DMR-EX75 Satellite: Sky Digibox The connections: HDMI between TV (AV4) and DVD Scart out of Satellite, into TV Scart out of DVD, into Satellite Arial into DVD Arial out of DVD, into TV The settings: TV: Picture Picture Mode: Custom Backlight: 3 Contrast: 90 Brightness: 42 Colour: 60 Colour Temperature: Warm2 Sharpness: 0 Noise Reduction: Off Advanced Settings Black Correction: Off Advanced Contrast Enhancer: Off Gamma: Off Clear White: Off MPEG Noise Reduction: Off Colour Space: Normal Screen Screen Format: Wide Auto Format: Off Display Area: Normal Setup Light Sensor: Off AV2 Output: TV Quiet Power On: Off DVD: Picture: Comb Filter On TV Aspect: 16:9 Progressive: On TV System: PAL HDMI Videoformat: Automatic Aspect for 4:3 video: 4:3 AV1 Output: Video (with component) AV2 Input: RGB/Video AV2 Connection: Ext Ext Link: Ext Link 2 Satellite: Picture Settings Format: 16:9 Scart Control: Off Video Output: RGB Contrast: High The problem: The picture quality for digital broadcasts are fine, but when trying to view either Satellite programs, DVD recordings or DVDs, the picture is not very sharp (or a bit fuzzy if I use technical lingo). A 4:3 screen size gives a slightly better picture, but it seems like such a waste of a perfectly good TV to not use the entire screen. So, in addition to the above, what should the screen settings be on the 3 pieces of equipment mentioned above. Thanks |

ensure your connections are :-
Sky TV scart ---> DVDR AV2 (you have Sky set to RGB ensure that the Panny settings for AV2 match this) DVDR HDMI ---> TV HDMI (as you have it) Sky will pass its signal through the DVDR to the TV (watch this on AV4 as for DVDR) The DVDR may even upscale Sky SD transmissions via HDMI), if it does you will be pleasantly surprised at the result. My SD stuff via Sky HD box HDMI to TV looks great. Rgds, Scorp |

Thanks for you tips. I've tried both suggestions above, and still have the same problem. I have a feeling it may be down to the fact that it is SD signal.
I used to watch this on a 37" toshiba wlg66 and the picture was fine and sharp. Could it be that larger screens show up more of the transmission imperfections? |

The AV1 output should be RGB, you've got it set to composite.
