I have been in an ongoing battle with BT to have a landline installed at my new build house. The first appointment which was booked for 27th July, no engineer arrived or called. Trying to get through to BT was a total nightmare and cost me a fortune on my mobile. Made another appointment for the following week, on the morning of the instal BT called to say they had cancelled my appointment as they could not locate my house and wanted to know if it had been built yet (DOH)

No further appointment was made by them, they said they wouyld call in a few days to arrange. Nobody called, I have called them dozens of times, I have put a complaint through the chairmans office, still nothing. Then I see a story in my local newspaper about another person in the same area with the same problem, bt had commented through the story that they had to build a new exchange as despite the massive develpement my house id part of being planned for over 10 years, BT did not anticipate that they would run out of space at the current exchange, and that they did not envisage poeple wanting Broadband.

Again I contacted BT's chairmans office to be told, they could not provide me with a line due to flood damage and the last comment I have had form them is that I wont get a telephone line until the end of October.

I cannot believe what poor service they have offered. They never return calls, evertime I speak to someone I get a different excuse and reason for not installing my line, and they have failed to reply to my written complaint in writing as I have asked them to.

I am stuck with no telephone, no internet and as I cannot have Sky installed without a telephone line no digital tv service (I dont live in a cabled or freeview area)

Whenever I speak to BT they say that they have no control over line instalations as they out source the work to openreach. They aslo keep telling me nobody including me can contact openreach to find out when my line will be installed, and the one thing that really gets me is they say nobody in my area is able to get a line installed at the moment, yet my next door neighbours line was fitted last Friday and is now fully up and running. My neighbour got a call last night to check everything was ok with his instalation and when he asked why his had been installed they said it was because he had spoken to his local councilor and they had followed the complaint through on his behalf.

Any openreach engineers who can offer me help and advice I would really really appreciate it

the only thing i can suggest is to follow the same route as your neighbour. we've got a new housing estate, and it's the same, they only put enough links to the cabinet for 100 houses, yet 180 were built. needless to say the sh!t has hit the fan on that one.

Thanks for that, its worth a go I suppose. Its a poor show though when you have to go to such extremes to get anything doen, you would have thought that BT had a working complaints department and if something can be done it is, not just do things for people who get their local government rep involved.

Write a Private and Confidential letter mailed to CEO of BT. Tell him what you think of his arse of a business. You may get some compensation for your efforts.
