Temporary phone query

Ok. I've got a mate coming to the UK for 3 weeks in a few days. He has a Nokia phone which someone else from the UK took out to NZ. Another mate of mine has an old Nokia which was PAYG to Orange and still has a few quid on it. My question is whether it will be simply a case of putting the SIM card from the PAYG old Nokia into my mate from NZ's newish one?

If that is not possible then can anyone suggest the best way for my mate to get mobile for 3 weeks. It is really a "keep in touch" facility rather than to be used for loads of calls and texts.

Cheers.

Thanks, Luke. I got a number from Carphone Warehouse for phone rental but it was very expensive. £50 deposit, delivery charge and rental at £1.00 per day if less than £5.00 worth of calls made per day As I say its just so that we can stay in touch as he'll be moving around for the 3 weeks. I'm going to speak to a local mobile shop tomorrow. Virgin were very helpful. Suggested I buy a PAYG phone, use it but return within 28 days and no quibble refund in full. May do that yet.

If the phone is

A) Unlocked
B) Can Operate on GSM1800

then you can use that phone on orange in the UK.
