Help needed re: Panasonic DVD players
Hi!
I currently have a Panasonic SA-HT880 home cinema system. It's a normal DVD player with a 5.1 speaker system. A lead runs from the DVD player to the sub, and all the other speakers run from the sub using normal speaker cable. Thing is I'd really like to upgrade to an upscaling player, but I want to keep my 5.1 speakers. Does anyone know if Panasonic make an upscaling DVD player which I can plug in to my speakers, exactly the same as I am doing now? Basically, it just needs to have the input which I can plug the lead from the sub in to. Oh, also I need 'TV In' plugs too, since to get the audio from my normal TV through the 5.1 I have to run stereo leads from the TV to the 'TV In' on the DVD player. Sorry if this post is a bit confused... Thanks! |

I would question why you want to "upgrade" to an upscaling player? For most people their TV will do a better job of upscaling than the DVD player and remember that if you set the DVD player to upscale then the TV will usually still scale afterwards anyway so you are scaling twice.
You would be getting HDMI but you probably won't notice any real improvement over SCART. Sorry if I sound negative but I think you may be better off saving your money. It does depend what TV you have, the better the TV the less point in getting an upscaling DVD player. You sound keen on Panasonic, do you have a Panny TV? If so you probably won't get any improvement. I have a Panny plasma and an upscaling DVD recorder but the best picture is using 576p (not upscaled). |

Oh right, thanks for the advice! Probably saved me a couple of hundred notes there then!
Yes, I have a Panasonic TV. It's a 32" LCD (THIS ONE) DVDs do look great on it to be honest, thinking about it buying a new DVD player does seem a waste! |
