Check out the Topfield site www.topfield.co.kr for details of the TF5100PVRtHDMI and the TF5710PVRtHDMI. They are already on sale in some markets but not the UK.

therefor of no use to me unless they are about to be released in the uk?

anyone know if this is the case?

Those models won't be released in the UK; they don't have MHEG5, so they wouldn't qualify for the digital tick mark, which would make them a hard sell in the run up to switchover.

When there is news of new models, it'll be reported on Toppy.org.uk; at present, the only thing I can say is that I'm going to be meeting with people from the UK importer in the next week or so. Maybe they'll tell me something interesting then. Or maybe they won't. Who can tell?

It seems to me that a new model is imminent. Therefore people considering buying the Toppy should think twice before the new models are introduced.

Did you trip over a Toppy once and stub your toe or something? Your one man crusade against Topfield is most amusing.

Glen.

I dont believe anyone thinks there is a new Topfield imminent. Theres nothing around PVR circles to suggest that anyway. After all Sony have a twin tuner DTT PVR with hdmi out for a while, and Philips, yet did they ever get released in the UK? If and when the UK beta testers get hold of the future topfield models as its being prepared for testing that will be a good sign of anything imminent. The only group involved in the future planning of next topfield models for the UK, outside Korea at the moment, is Turbosat. Nigels going to ask them if there is anything in the future as he has a good relationship with them through toppy.org.uk.

Anyone else saying something about imminent toppy release without being able to back themselves up wont be taken seriously by many people who read the threads here.

Usually manufacturers keep the release of a new model secret until the last minute to prevent loss of sales of their existing models.

But they have obviously told you - or is your "knowledge" about a new model just another example of the total rubbish that you spout about the Toppy (and other PVRs)

I find that comment antagonistic and personally directed.

But back to the point, you've never yet posted a comment and been able to back up what you're saying. It's all just supposition presented in a way that implies you know more than you actually do.

ian you never relealed your source to back up your claim. I guess you didnt want to drop Turbosat in it directly?

It's just a lucky guess. No inside information at all.

The rough details of the 5810 were revealed to a select few at a Turbosat event last night.

I can't say anything Marc. Needless to say, there are many links in the chain.

Give a monkey a pen and paper and in time he will write a few intelligible words and possibly a sentence.
The Topfield 5800 is how old now?

I reckon it was released early 2005, not that it makes much difference. You bought one as well didn't you ianmoticon.

It was released about a week after Easter of 2005.

So that makes it 2 and a half years old. Not bad when you consider that the main players in the dvd recorder market come out with a new look model every year or so, sometimes less (and make the old one obsolete).

Only release something new when there is something worthy as an addition maybe?

And when there's a market for the additional bits and bobs. In 2005 there was little demand for HDMI. A larger HDD or a VFD front panel would've added additional cost, pushing the unit over £300, which was mine and probably a lot of other people's price limit. Remember that major players like Panasonic and Sony were selling PVRs for around £300 at the time, so £280 was quite competitive for a 160GB dual tuner.

Once again Mr ianmoticon fails to answer a simple question. He fails to answer question after question yet claims he has all this knowledge.
I am still waiting for details on how the TUTV Anytime box skips ad breaks - a claim he made whilst moaning about the Toppy not doing this automatically. That and many other questions this knowledgeable expert on pvrs has failed to reply to, because he makes ridiculous claims that he cannot back up with any evidence or facts.
