Your VCR doesn't have a Freeview tuner, so you need your TV turned on to record from the TV's Freeview tuner. Easiest option is to buy a cheap Freeview box and connect it to the other SCART on the DVD/VCR.

As Nigel says, in a nutshell, you can't record from something that's not switched on. It also means you can only record the Freeview channel that your TV is currently tuned to. To get round both of these short-comings, you need to feed the video with a separate Freeview signal - i.e. an STB. You can of course leave the STB switched on and tuned to the correct digital channel while you are out or in bed, because it doesn't have a big screen which lights up your living room. Your TV does.

Nigel.Sorry but its me again.Been looking at your idea of connecting a seperate freeview box up to the dvd combi, just one matter if i take a scart from the dvd to the freebox what about the cables coming from the ariel socket they are noe connected to the lcd and dvdcombi the freeview box will need a signal is it possible that you could give some form of a wiring setup for this problem i would be most gratefull.Thankyou.

A Freeview box (an STB) has an aerial in and an aerial out. Feed the aerial from your roof into the STB first, from there to your DVD/VCR box, from there to your TV. Connect a scart lead from the STB out to the VCR in.

Like in the other thread, it's NOT a problem with the TV, that's working perfectly - the problem is your recorder, you've bought an old analogue only recorder, if you bought a Freeview recorder (preferably a PVR), then everything would work as it's supposed to.

Even with analogue TV's you didn't record from the TV (a popular misconception), you recorded from the VCR's internal tuner - your recorder doesn't have an internal Freeview tuner, only an analogue one.
