ABC1 to close on October 1? (rumour)

Big news: according to this link ABC1 is going to be closing on FV on October 1st:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...nd#Coming_Soon

Wonder what will happen to its slot?

Not a reliable source. I really doubt it'll happen. The channel is owned by the financial power of Disney. They could make it into anything they wanted.

It doesn't say that anymore.

Wikipedia is not a reliable source anyway.

It would fit with LondonW1's thread about him seeing a document stating that a semi-important channel will be closing on October 1st. So far we've thought it was The Hits...

According to Wikipedia, Virgin 1 launches, The Hits closes and rebrands to T4 Music, and abc1 closes all on October 1st. It all must be true.

Or it could just be a fool who thought April fools was actually on the 1st of September

Considering you can freely add/edit/remove information on wikipedia, I doubt the credibility of the article.

abc1 launched on Monday 27th September 2004. Perhaps they only had a 3 year contract and either abc1 or Mux A licensee (ITV?) have decided not to extend the contract?

Lets all add up all the clues shall we?

ITV are in talks to lease some of "their" capacity to Virgin Media. This could be capacity on Mux A, D3/4 or D

ABC 1 leases capacity from SDN on Mux A, SDN is now owned by ITV, also ITV stated @ http://www.itvplc.com/itv/news/relea...05/2005-04-27/ that most of their capacity is under contract until 2010.

Note the word MOST in there

A forum member has stated that a channel on Freeview will close on October the 1st, no channel name mentioned

Wikpedia state that ABC 1 will close on October the 1st.

Let the mathematicians commence making 2 + 2 = 5

I doubt this very much, but one can only hope. Maybe V1 may use this to extend hours? Far better use IMO

EDIT: Darn too slow!

Why did you start a new thread on this when it's being discussed elsewhere on the forum? (I assume that's where you found this out from)

To be honest, I don't think it warranted its own thread unless it was backed up by a more trustworthy source. And now you've learnt your lesson as the content has subsequently been pulled from Wikipedia.

But hey, your thread generated many views and replies in a short space of time so it's not all bad news.

It was mentioned in the Satellite forum this morning but was quickly dismissed by the members over there.

It's not just the platform we watch TV on that divides us then, it's also our ability to use common sense.

At the moment, this could go either way. Generally Wikipedia is very consistent, and any "joke" edits are delt with immediatly. I guess we'll have to wait for a DS article!

The entry relating to ABC1 now seems to have been removed. Having said that, the same article now states that Sky One, Sky Two and Sky Three are closing on 22 October.

Seems somewhat unlikely, but perhaps I have missed something.
