DAVS880........Problem????
My DAVS880 seems to have a problem. A couple of the region 2 DVD's I have will not play. Front panel message reads "Can't play". I have tried the disks in friends dvd players and they play with no problems. There doesn't seem to be any reference to the"can't play" message in the manual.
System is still in warranty but would rather not take my room apart to return the whole sytem. Am I being a complete numpty or have I got a problem. Thanks |

One was the kids "Thunderpants" dvd.....actually I'm not sure if I want to see this anyway.
Is this important? You're not going to tell me that my systems knows whether its a good or bad film??? |

If only they could it would save a lot of time!
I was just thinking that if it was a DVD like "My Little Eye" then they use very complicated "stuff" (technical term) when it comes to interactivity and your player may have had trouble with it. |

I'm not sure if "Thunderpants" is up there with the latest dvd interactivity...but you never know. The strange thing is that my friends dvd player that it's worked on is a bargain basement machine.
One thing I forgot to mention is that my system is multi region. Could this be relevant to the problem? |

I've not come across this in a while, but my older DAVS300 (multi-region chipped) does not like RCE protected disks - could this be the problem?
Sonys seem to be a bit mean with what they play (at least the older ones). I've heard that many of the cheaper players will play absolutely everything! I have problems with some copied DVDs and no joy with CDRs at all. Do you think the Sony badge will come off and stick on a £50 cheapy????

Sorry for being so ignorant but what are RCE protected disks and how can I tell if a disk is protected?
Also my system is less than 6 months old...should I still be getting this problem? |

I think it only would apply to American/Canadian region disks though (region 1?)?? You could take the issue up with your supplier as it's still under guarantee and the disk plays ok on other players but I suspect they will do their best to deny any respobsibility for a fault. Sorry, can't think of anything else d_d_l |
