Wireless bb causing problems with answer phone

Hi, can anyone help with a problem with my answer phone? I have a cordless BT Studio 1100 with integrated answer phone and a single extension. I have never had any problems, but since getting wireless broadband a few weeks ago I have been getting really bad interference on the answer machine and can't hear any of the message. The phone works perfectly, both the main phone and the extension and there is no problem with the broadband. Calls go the answer phone but when I play the message there is just a really bad hissing sound. There was no problem when I was on ordinay bb before. Any ideas?

Sounds like an RF (proximity) issue.

Separate the DECT base station and BB router as far as possible.

Thanks for that, but my phone is downstairs and the wireless router box is upstairs, so I can't really get them any further apart. Is there any other possible cause?

Are you sure you have filters installed on every phone, the "hissing" sounds like an unfiltered socket issue

The hissing sounds exactly the same as an unfiltered phone socket, but there is only one incoming socket and the filter is plugged into it. The phone/answerphone is plugged into the filter. The upstairs phone is hands free and does not plug into a phone socket at all. That's why I'm stumped on this one. Besides, if it was something to do with the filter wouldn't I get the same interference on the phone too?

It's a black art - change the filter for a new one and see what happens!

Unfortunately not black enough. I tried a different filter without any success. I have also tried the "help" desks at BT (for the phone) and Orange (for the broadband). Needless to say they haven't ben able to come up with any ideas, each one told me to talk to the other. In fairness to them, there is no problem as such with the equipment or the connection, just interference.

I seem to remember seeing a thread somewhere about a BT home system that was somehow related to the frequency of the phone and the broadband, could this be a similar problem? How on earth do I find out?

I have thought about going back to an analogue answerphone.

Hi, I had exactly the same problem with BT Studio 1500 phone. Worked OK as phone, but answerphone messages wiped out by noise. If my Micronet wireless router was turned off, answerphone was OK.
I have solved this by having 2 ADSL filters (Speedtouch) in line with the phone, now works fine. It is likely that different filters work better than others.

why not get 1571 and save yourself the expense on electricity powering your answering machine?

Have you tried changing the wireless channel on your broadband router? accessable via the menu.
