Displaying things on my TV from my Mac

I just got the new iMac, and seeing as everything else on here is so simple, I figure TV will be aswell. Basically I want to open a video (old episodes of Are You Afraid Of The Dark and Pete and Pete mostly

) and drag it over to my TV to play it on there. I understand it may be as simple as just getting one cable to connect the two? What cable will it be, and what connection would it need to go into on my TV (so i can check it has the right connection)?
