oh yes - the day it comes out, can't wait!!

I'm a gadget freak and I love it!! I'm sure I'll regret it as soon as a newer, better, bigger one comes out but then hey, I'll buy that one as well!!

By the way, I'm not an apple fanboy, I'm like this with everyones gadgets

If you plan on ripping stuff yourself, fine ... just rip it into a format it can handle (H264 etc).

If you plan on downloading stuff (torrents etc) then be prepared to do a bit of converting unless you stick to downloads in a format it can handle (the minority). The MP3 of online, downloadable, video is DivX/Xvid .... if you want to play those on it, you'll have to convert them.

iSquint is free and does a great job of converting to H.264. No drop in quality and a much smaller file size.

I have one. Its an amazing device.

For people who use bit torrent for films/tv shows, try podtropolis.com for your torrents. Everything on there is already formatted to work on an iPod/iPhone.

I have the 80g and I only ever listen to about 200 different songs, the 16g on the touch is a good thing IMO as any more is a waste just space to carry unused tunes

I got mine yesterday from the Apple Store in Boston. £200 for the 16G model. Ha ha ha.

It's just great.

I'm using it now watching Basil Brush using the YouTube app streamed in my hotel room with WiFi over my iBook internet sharing.

The portable web browser is just excellent.

The video player is fantastic.

I'm really delighted with it.

I was in the Apple Store in London last Saturday, and the ONLY reason I didn't buy an iPod Touch... (the £269 version) was that they were out of stock!

Might go back next Saturday week and see if I can buy one (along with Leopard OSX)!

P.S. Does anyone know if they do a student discount on the iPod (if I actually go and buy in the store)?

Apologies in advance if this question sounds stupid, but I am not very techy!!

I've just ordered a iPod touch for my OH's b'day.

As he's freelance I am interested to know if he can check his emails on the go (providing he's got Wi-Fi reception (I know that much!).

And will he have to log on to the email webpage (ie. hotmail.com) or will he ba able to install outlook express on the ipod?!?

Many thanks!

Hah!

The iPod Touch doesn't come with a mail client but it does have a browser so he should be able to log in to Hotmail's website. Whether it will work in Safari or not (the browser that the iPod Touch uses) is down to Hotmail though.

Err... As the post says, I bought it from the Apple Store in Boston. For the avoidance of doubt, this is Boston MA and not Boston in Lincs.

With the great exchange rate at the moment, it's costing approx £200.

yes... at my second attempt.

i followed the posts in the forum at mac rumors, and used ijailbreak 2 (i think there's a version 3 now) and cyberduck.

mucked up the first time and lost access to all my music and videos... didn't know to reformat first or stop the connection to itunes!

re email, at the moment the touch can only do web email with safari. If you hack it and put on mobile mail from the iphone it works with real email. (its really very good actually, am seriously tempted by iphone now)

don't know if this will help you but if you do a little swipe to the left on the arrow > by an email a red delete button appears

just discovered it will display word attachments too

Yeah I know the swipe to delete feature (you can also delete Videos this way to save space), but I get a lot of email so it can become quite tedious when all I want is to select say, 20 emails and then delete them all in one fell swoop.

Mobile Mail can display Word and Excel files, as well as images and PDFs.

I had assumed that a friend of mine had bought my one (8gb) from the same place whilst staying in Boston but in fact they found an electronics gadget shop in Cambridge MA whilst visiting MIT and got it for around the £150 mark.
