I have a new pc with bouth vga and hdmi capable connections on both the pc and my new tv. I was wanting to get a hdmi cable to connect them for the best picture quality, but I read that hdmi cables also support sound. Does this mean that my tv speakers will act as the speakers for my pc if i connect the two with a hdmi cable?

My current vga connection obviously does not, and so i must use seperate speakers, and was wondering if anyone could inform me on the matter?

It depends on the graphics card. HDMI is capable of carrying sound through a single cable.
Some Radeon Graphics cards also transmit sound when via a dvi output when it senses a DVI to HDMI cable.

Post details of your graphics card and we can find out it it transmits sound through the hdmi port

rite, its a Nvidia Geforce 8400 ds graphics card

All I'd say is just try it. Single hdmi>hdmi cable from PC to TV.

yea, will do, i mean if worst comes to worst ill just continue using my pc speakers, but itd b space saving if the tv speakers played the audio from my pc.

and plus, on www.play.com theyre selling hdmi cables for only £12.99, nowhere else does them that cheap!
