I am not really too bothered, the channel was showing repeat after repeat, and although classic episodes are good, they get dull after watching them like 10 times

abc1 shares with Nuts TV and Top Up TV Anytime 2. Bid TV uses the 6am-6pm slot on this stream in Wales. TeleG also uses the 6pm-7pm slot on this stream in Scotland. http://www.deeteetee.co.uk/index_page0015.htm

Personally, I liked ABC1, but the lack of new programming this year did get tiresome.
The sensible thing to do would be to shift UKTV Bright Ideas onto the ABC1 slot, and then make Virgin 1 24 hours on the Bright Ideas / Ftn slot. Whether or not that happens remains to be seen. |

I suspect that ABC1 was the best mix for that time slot and that Disney will retire from Freeview. It's a bit late to talk about no decisions being made yet. My guess is that CITV or Setanta Sports News would fit well into the slot. CITV is my favourite choice. It would give ITV a number of options to kill off CITV and boost ITV 4. That is unless they need the money. |

How about sell the space to somebody like Chart Show TV and get some a good music channel on Freeview.
Wonder if ABC1 will continue on Sky? Maybe with a big cash boost on programming? |

ABC1 (Eng, Scot, NI) is on the same stream as S4C (Wales). The non Wales part goes: 0600-1800 ABC1 1800-1900 Tele-G (Scotland only) 1800-1900 Blank (England and NI) Turner stream 1900-2100 Currently unassigned (blank) 2100-0100 Nuts TV 0100-0600 Top Up TV Anytime 2 In Wales S4C runs 24/7 The Turner stream does not operate in Wales because of the presence of S4C so SDN sold Turner the Wales part of the Bid TV stream from 7pm-6am. This means that Bid TV is not broadcast in Wales from 7pm to 6am. Just for the record QVC shares with S4C2 in Wales. S4C2 only broadcasts at present from Tues-Thurs 9am-6pm, so QVC is 24/7 in Wales from Friday to Monday. |

Possible channels to take the slot:
UKTV Bright Ideas takes the slot, Virgin 1 goes 24 hours, or UKTV G2 takes the slot, Virgin 1 goes 24 hours, or CITV takes the slot, ITV 4 goes 24 hours, or Disney/ABC keep the slot, and launch a new channel or replace it with an existing one, possibly Playhouse Disney. Anymore suggestions? digiperson |

Actually that article is interesting in that they don't make the effort to say it will keep broadcasting on satellite/cable. Remember when Men & Motors left Freeview, they were careful to clarify that it wasn't closing completely and you could still view their programming on other platforms. It may be that it will continue, it's just the fact that they don't mention it that leaves it open to speculation.

Its a shame abc1 is leaving Freeview. Its my most watched channel during the day time. Just a shame they could not get a 24 hour slot on Freeview as it had so much potential.

Well, looks like it really is going then.
Rather sad, but in it's current state abc1 had no future. |

I think Freeview has reached it's peak point with channels. I think channels are going to start getting replaced. The Hits for example might be turning into 4Music. UKTV are rumoured to be replacing UKTV Bright Ideas with UKTVG2. ITV2+1 might get sold off to Virgin.
And with the rumours of Sky News/Sky Three and Sky Sports news turning into pay channels it will be interesting times ahead. How about closing down bid-tv and price drop or buying them out? personally I think this space could be better used. Teleshopping could be spread thought-out over night slots we don't need 3 or 4 dedicated shopping channels. |

I still can't see ITV selling off one of it's slots to Virgin. Where would be the sense in that?
