Hi, I have pink green and purple colours on my tv screen. Purple in the corners and pink and green in the middle. Have tried unplugging for few hours and leaving on for a bit but it is still the same. Any ideas,or has the tube gone? Any help appreciated. Thanks.

Have you recently put any speakers next to or near the screen?

Failure of the degaussing circuit could be the problem. A temperature-dependent resistor controls degaussing current, these run very hot and can unsolder themselves. Some sets give an audible thump at switch-on caused by the degaussing current: have you noticed a change?

No speakers near the screen and no new equipment. Not noticed a change when I switch on. Have done a forum search (search not working earlier) and am going to try some ideas from them ie magnets as it seems I have nothing to lose! Thanks.

Don't use magnets! - you can only make it worse. You need to deguass it, and you need a slowly diminishing AC magnetic field.

But if you've had nothing magnetic near it, then the set is probably faulty - either a duff posistor, or a dry joint on it - it's a VERY common fault.

Probably best to get someone out to it for a repair, it shouldn't be expensive - 15 minute job, plus the cost of the posistor (if it needs one) - which might add a tenner to the bill?. It's almost certainly NOT the tube, unless it's been knocked over or had a MAJOR impact (or a lightning strike - I've seen that kill tubes as well).

Would suggest getting it degaussed... You can buy or even make a simple tool for this. A lot cheaper than getting an engineer out.

Be warned though that you must keep magnetic media (computer hard drives , tapes etc) away from the device when in use as not only will it degauss the screen, it will also wipe the disk or tape.

Try something like this http://www.uxcell.com/hand-held-crt-...FQTmlAodFA6XzA
although do a search as I'm not sure if this link is still valid.

It's basically a charged coil, so should be a simple thing to make. A search should reveal this too.

Don't waste your time or money.
As Nigel suggested it's probably a faulty degauss positor.
It would also help if you gave the make/model no of the TV.
