Ringing From Europe With Mobile Phone

Hi
I should imagine this has been brought up loads of times.
Next week I`m off to Europe for the first time in 9 years. I shall be taking my mobile with me, now when I want to dial home what do I need to dial, i.e Is it classed as an international call?

Oh,yes. You need to remove the 0 at the start of the phone number, and replace it with +44

Be careful!

You on pay monthly or prepay?

You could come back to a nice bill if on pay monthly.

You need to check how much what costs before going

I`m on prepay Sean, it shall only be calls to let family know I`m fine.
I checked on the Vodaphone site and it`s about 38p a minute.

It's called Vodafone

If you add Vodafone Passport and are going to one of their listed destinations, then it'll be 75p connection + your normal UK rate.

May be good for longish chats without worrying to much!

Your profile states you are in Lancashire, that's in Europe or are you saying you've not even been living in the UK for these 9 years?

You'll pay roaming rates to make and receive calls. You'll need to check with your provider for the rates.

You'll need to dial in international format, +441... +442... +447... etc. Might be an idea to edit all your numbers into this format (I've always had my numbers on my mobile in this format). You drop the 0 and use +44 instead (You'll notice this is how your phone displays the received texts).

Are you travelling around or just visiting one country? I have found it much cheaper to get hold of a sim card for the country you are visiting and Pay as you Go from there. Calls home are cheaper than roaming, and calls within the country in question are great value. Need to make sure phone is unlocked and manual network selection to avoid accidental roaming when near borders. Decent grasp of the language is useful too, for user guides and contacting customer services if necessary.

More difficult if you're moving around, though, I imagine.
