Voip based computer abroad
Hi all,
Can I use a voip account to call UK landline from abroad for free? Do they believe you are in UK? I currently have a Sipgate account with UK local Number on Computer abroad, which I phone from UK and goes through OK, am I correct in thinking I am being charged the UK local call rate? thanks in advance.

You can use your UK VoIP account anywhere in the world you have connection, the person you are calling will think you are calling from the UK if you have a UK local number, also people calling your UK number will not know you are not in the UK.
The person calling you will be paying the usual cost of calling a UK number and for your out going calls you will be charged whatever rate your VoIP provider charges for calling UK numbers. For example Sipgate charges 1.19p/min to UK landlines so no matter where you are in the world that is the rate you will pay to call UK landlines. www.voip.co.uk have a good package, I use Sipgate and VoIPStunt, but there's other Betamax services such as VoIPDiscount, there's also www.voiptalk.org/reallyvoip and OrbTalk and many others. I have numbers throughout the UK and use them to receive calls when outside the UK, I also have a few USA numbers, a German number, a Dutch number, an Italian number and a Romanian number. That is the beauty of VoIP. |
