VHS copy protection problem.

Got my tv card working in the PC finally, and am trying to copy a video to the pc, to get rid of the video! However, when I try to record the source (video playing into tv card. AVerMedia hybrid tv/freeview PCI XPMCE) I get a window saying 'Due to copy protection this presentation cannot be recorded' It's a windows error, not on the video. I didnt realise video cassettes had this feature! Any ways round this? Only trying to convert tapes to DVD!

It's probably a Macrovision encoded video that you are trying to copy. Your capture card is detecting the Macrovision signal and quite properly refusing to allow a recording to be made.

Circumventing such copy protection is illegal, which means discussion of means to do this is not allowed here.

To remove Macrovision I would usually say visit www.sonel.com where you can buy a special scart lead.

Perhaps this company can supply something similar for your use.

Unless its a rare film unavailable on dvd the chances are you can buy the official dvd for under £10 so why waste time creating a dvd of vhs quality?
