Anyone know what the ratio is for MP3 verses ATRAC?
That is I have a 160kbps MP3 what is the ATRAC equivalent Bit Rate but maintaining the same quality??

Latin is a dead language and ATRAC is a dead format.

If you're converting from the MP3 it doesn't matter since you'll be losing quality no matter what. If you're making mp3 and atrac from an original source then that would be different. Not that I know what the Atrac equivelant of 160 mp3 would be.

So you like gaps between tracks eh? This is how ATRAC will always win over MP3, no gaps between tracks.

I didn't say MP3 was better than ATRAC...

You can't argue with the fact that Sony have now officially abandoned ATRAC.

Isnt gaps or the lack thereof dependent on the player rather than the format? I believe there are various players that dont play gaps on mp3s (anything wıth rockbox on for a start and newer ıpods)

You can certainly get MP3's to play back gapless if the firmware of the player is clever enough ....

And if you've got enough buffer RAM in the player to allow the firmware to read ahead.

A lot of players only have a tiny amount of RAM to allow streaming rather than buffering.

If Sony have abandoned the ATRAC format why have they included it in the PS3's Firmware.

Backward compatibility? They won't be developing it any more, but they might continue to include decoding capability in their products for a wee while yet.

*takes offence*
Nah, not really.

Mp3 is the way forward - everything uses it and software is easier to get.
