Vodafone Mobile Trouble
magicmover

Hi, my god mum bought a Sharp GZ10i from ebay the other week problem is that after putting a brand new SIM card in it, it comes on but cannot call in or out on it using the mobile. We've tried the SIM in another phone which is unlocked and it worked ok.

The first SIM we tried in this Vodafone one kept saying 'insert SIM' so presumed it was knackered.

Any suggestions? Would most greatly appreciate your help.

PS: When we try to call out, straight away it says 'call disconnected.'

The handset has been 'barred'

All Vodafone handsets will still get a signal and show you as 'connected' but all incoming and outgoing calls are 'barred' from going to the handset.

Sounds like you've been conned

Anyway to unbar it?

It is illegal to unbar the phone. The phone will have been reported as lost or stolen. The best thing to do is contact the seller, if you have no joy then contact eBay. Hope it gets sorted.

are you sure that it is a vodafone handset? it may just need a NUC so you can put any sim in it.

However if it has been stolen barred then you will be out of luck. Unless the person who sold the device to you was the original owner in which they can ask for the IMEI bar to be removed.
