I thought that Brian acted disgustingly and was totally EMBARASSING!!! I don't agree with a lot of the stuff Jim says, well moreso HOW he says it But he was 200% right when he said about '...Brian always playing the Homophobic Card....' it's true! any situation he started up '...did you hear Jim say this or that?' Brian has done a great injustice to gay people everywhere! He acted like a TOTAL FREAK and I know a lot of gay people who say the same....ridiculous

Interesting that JD should make this ridiculous statement after Brian objected to his use of the term 'shirt lifter'.....if he hadn't frequently insulted Brian on the grounds of his sexuality during the course of the show, Brian would have no cause to 'play the homophobic card' as you and JD choose to call it.

I think you are gonna be on your own on this one. I want to know what they didnt show because even Paul said to Jim "I dont know why you did that, why did you come out here just to start that" or words similer. So something was said that we didnt see to start the whole thing off. But for Jim to walk up to Brian and say that all shirtlifters have a certain look is totally out of order. I for one am glad the horrible little cretin has gone. When everyone in the house said he was out of order then you have to take thier word for it afterall they are there for it all we only see the highlights.

I don't agree, or particularly like Jim after this show, and he certainly hasn't helped himself.

However, Brian HAS been playing the gay card, and Jim didn't really do a lot wrong last night.

I understand it could be a build up, but I don't believe he said "good as you" as an insult.

I really can't stand Brian. He is an insult to gay people quite frankly. I can't stand him because he is an utter idiot, nothing more.

If somebody says something that's offensive to me on numerous occassions, verging on bullying, I have a right to challenge them over it. He wasn't playing 'the gay card'. He's allowed to challenge someone who thinks it's ok to be ignorant and a bully. Yes, he got upset, but that was after a week if listening to that. I would've flipped my lid way before Brian did.

I don't think Jim meant good as you as an insult. His explanation convinced me that he was trying to smooth over the situation!

It doesn't however change the fact that he had already gone too far with the shirtlifter comments as well as thinking that Brian would sleep with the girls, in their bedroom!

Furthermore, far from playing the gay card Brian seemed to be so in shock he was defending Jim, on several occasions, he told the confessional he didn't think Jim was actually homophobic, It was the shirtlifter comment that ended it for him!

What disturbed me more than the homophobic comments was Jims determination to expose Brian as a people pleaser desparate to win to revive his flagging career (and we're supposed to believe Jim was just there for the cookery lesson). It smacked of Michael Barrymore V Jodie Marsh, he thought he was more famous better and above Brian and was jealous that Brian was getting more attention than him!

If Jim hadn't been making these comments there never would have been an issue, so for people to say Brian is "playing the homophobic card" should realise that Jim gift wrapped the card and put on a silver platter and delivered it personally to Brian!

Brian would not be able to play the homophobe card if Jim was not being a homophobe. I'll give Jim the benefit of the doubt on Good As You (although the aggresion in the way he said it, and that fact that Paul thought it was an insult would suggest otherwise) but the shirt lifter comment was a step well too far.

Paul told Barry the next morning that Jim had been taunting all three of the younger ones so I suspect there was a lot we didn't see which tipped Brian over the edge.

It seems clear that Jim is primarily a bully, the rest of it is secondary but he clearly likes to torment those he sees as weaker than him, be matey with his supposed equals and be a downright suck up to those he sees as superior. It seems his human interaction skills have not developed since school. You can't blame Brian for reacting to bullying, to expect him to just take it would be support for an odious bully who thinks he can get away with treating people like dog shit.

What a silly post. All this nonsense about "playing the homophobic card": you mean standing up for yourself when someone is deliberately being homophobic towards you?

Jim's constant littles digs about several people were offensive, it was just that towards Brian he decided to use the homophobic route.

Brian has never said he was representing all gay people - that was his point: he is an individual, not a label. You may not like how Brian dealt with Jim, but at least he did, he let things go for a while then addressed it. And I say, "well done him".

Firstly I disagree with JD in that if a joke upsets some one then it can be offensive. It's not if is posted on a forum where people are their to argue and can be avoided. It's not if it is at one of JDs shows as Brian has the option of not attending. It is offensive because he is working in a team and Brian has no way of avoiding him so it is bullying and offensive to say what he said.

I would also say that as a country we can not control people minds so whats the point in collectively trying to shut up people we don't like. Ignoring them would be better. Just pretending racism, sexism and homo phobia has no place in todays society doesn't mean its not common place. Most white people walk on egg shells and just say one thing in public and one thing in private. After all how can we go from the 70's to now in some sort of mass PC conversion.

So to sum up its the environment you are in and the position you hold in society that determines whether what you say is offensive or humor to others.

I think this is a reasonable post but I just can't agree with the section in bold. I don't think that "most white people" are closet racists/homophobes/etc or even just use that language at home (unless for "comic effect" when telling offensive jokes).

I also don't think everyone went through a mass PC conversion; I think school education and general education played a part; the great mix of people in society played a part; lots of things. But I honestly believe that most people in the UK are not racist, sexist, homophobic, etc - but some people are: but that doesn't make those attitiudes acceptable.

And that is why JD being put out of HK is a good mesage to be giving out.

I'll back her up on the last section. I'm straight, and I'm not going to be forced down the "I have loads of gay friends" route - but I am close with a couple, and both have said the same thing. They also dislike Stonewall as well - for generally the same reason as they think Brian was the one at fault - giving gay people a bad name, and stereotyping themselves!

He may not live up to some people's views of what he "shoud be": well tough. He is an individual, not a representative. Well summed up. That's how I saw it too. What Paul said to Barry made it clear to me that much more came from Jim that perhaps they couldn't show.

The 'normal' comment reminds me of a postcard I saw a while ago. It was of a little girl at a dinner table with an elderly man. She says 'so you're saying the causes of inequality lie with nature, Uncle Cedric'.

I agree. I thought long and hard about using the word "normal", and other words would have been better - but I ended up in a rush during my post and just went with it.

It seems Jim was kicked of the show, i think a comment that did not go down to well and i am suprised has not been mentioned had to be when Jim commented "can't a normal straight WHITE male not have an opinion". I think with the big row people are having over racism on TV he pushed it a bit there.

Personally i think everything Brian said was right, Jim is a man that belongs in the 50's he still has a 50's way of thinking and is not really moving with the times. I find he is always trying to provoke a reaction from Brian. He seems to like the argumant, that is until he realises that everyone thinks he is a t**t. The girls were right last night, comments like he makes are not used in today's society, and if they are it should be a joke you make to freinds that are comftable with it, not to a guy you so obviosley dislike.
