Hi all.. we have a sony RDR-GX210. Its hardy been used in the 2 years we have had it and now it wont reconize any disks.. just spits it out and says can not play this disk..

Well.. almost.. it will play copied audio cd's and my philips cd lens cleaner but thats it,, any other disk and it just spits it out!

Anyone got any ideas whats wrong? can it be fixed? or is it a in the bin it goes jobby?

It's a VERY, VERY, VERY common fault, and requires the entire DVD mechanism replacing - however it is so very common that it probably qualifies for 'not suitable for the purpose' - you could try contacting your dealer or Sony, and even perhaps trading standards for advise?.

BTW, there are two completely different versions of the 210, and the mech and every single board is different - serial numbers start either 600 or 650 - but both have the same massive reliability problem.
