Piping SKY box via RF feed to 2nd TV
I would like to watch sky tv in other rooms. I have connected the 2d tv via a co-ax cable but find that the satalite picture is poor whilst terrestrial is fine.
What I've now found is that if I connect the "RF out" from the SKY box to the TV without the "RF in" (from roof arial) cable connected to the SKY box the sat signal is fine, but if I then connect the "RF in" cable the signal is poor again. I need the RF in cable connected otherwise I can't watch terrestial TV on the other TV if SKY is set to something else. Any ideas? Would appreciate some. Thanks |

You probably need to change the channel the Sky box is outputting on. It may be getting interference from a signal on the aerial feed.
It could be something like a weak signal from another transmitter if as you say the terrestrial channels are OK. If, for example, BBC1 was the cause of the interference on Sky then you should also see interference on BBC1 from Sky. You should be able to find out what is causing the interference simply by switching off the Sky box and seeing what you get on the Sky channel on the TV. You may see a weak fuzzy picture. But I would try changing the RF output channel on the Sky box and see if you can find a clear channel. |

To change the output channel the Sky modulator uses you need to:
-Press services -Press 4 -Press 0 -Press 1 -Press select This will take you to a secret Sky installers menu where you select RF Outlets or something on those lines and press select. Now move down to (i cant remember what it says, but will almost certianly say 68) the number. Type any number you want from 21 to 69 and press select. The Sky box will then change the output channel and you will then need to retune the TV which now has no Sky picture to the new Sky channel. You may find that new channel you have chosen is the same as a terrestiral channel, in which case you will get an awful picture. So in this case, carry out the procedure again and chose a different number. Do you by any chance live in in or near the Lincolnshire area? Our picture from Sky has been getting worse until I changed the output channel, because some bright spark decided to broadcast one of the Freeview muxes on channel 68 from Belmont. |

I'm no expert on these matters, how do i find a clear channel? If you know what transmitter you are receiving from then you can select a channel that is at least three away from any of the broadcast channels. The BBC has a pretty comprehensive list of all the transmitters in the country. And if you know vaguely where you are in the UK you don't even need to know your transmitter! Just click the map on the nearest green dot to where you are. http://www.bbc.co.uk/reception/transmitters/tv/ You can narrow down the exact transmitter if your TV can display the UHF channel number for the analogue services. Just compare these to the list. Also on page 100 of ITV Teletext (analogue) you can press REVEAL which shows a code identifying the main transmiter for your region. Though it won't show if you are receiving from a relay. But it will help locate the right area if nothing else. The other method requires a bit of trial and error. Just go into the tuning option on the TV and do a manual tune steping through the UHF channels untill you get one that is just a sea of noise. Make a note of that and set the Sky box to the same number. Again try to ensure you don't pick a channel next door to one of the analogue transmissions. Try to stay at least three channels away if possible. |
