New Line announces first Blu Ray Title
It seems Hairspray is coming to both Blu Ray and DVD simultaneously in November. The HD-DVD release will be some time in 2008. All future New Line HD-DVD releases will be released after a delay, behind Blu Ray and DVD because of the absence of region coding on HD-DVD. (Source: the digital bits).
I wonder when The Lord of the Rings trilogy will be announced. Can't wait for that! That's one of my "must haves", alongside other favourites, as yet unannounced: Star Wars IV,V and VI (natch!), Alien, Aliens, Indiana Jones, and Back to the Future. BTTF is, no doubt going to be an issue for me, as it's a Universal title. |

Theatrical release schedules having an impact on HD DVD is just so bizarre in this day and age and quite frankly if they are going to delay the HD DVD version by 6 months plus to take into account EU, South America, Asian release dates then they might as well say they are Blu-ray exclusives.
Given that DVD region coding has been a non-issue for a decade it's sad that DRM is still considered a weapon when the problem lies with the old lack of simultaneous theatrical releases in the major markets. I don't expect any of the big guns to be released until either the format war ends with one format dying or dual format players becoming the norm. |

At least some titles are for now. |
