"Dynamic Contrast" Ratio vs "Contrast" Ratio?
Looking to buy an LCD TV, I've been comparing specs. ...
Some TVs have a "Contrast Ratio" of, say, 1200:1 Some claim "Dynamic" Contrast Ratio of 8000:1 or even 15000:1 In the shop, I can't tell much difference in picture blackness/contrast between the two, although I would expect the 15000:1 to perform much better than 1200:1 Are we being conned by marketing-speak?  How to compare the two (on paper) and why the seemingly different metrics? Cheers in advance

There's no industry set standard for measuring contrast ratio.
Go for it with your eyes, not with the numbers... |

contrast ratio measurment is the difference betweenlight and dark on a screen. dymamic contrast is a measurement based on VESA standard. DC changes according to brightness on scene; ie bright pic=backlight brightness is high, dark picture= backlight brightness is low. this improves the contrast ratio of the picture
