If you read what I wrote you would not need to make another post.

It makes little difference to me - I check football scores with the BBC and Sky on my mobile - takes 3 or 4 seconds to load the page with GPRS, a couple of seconds quicker with 3G - oooh!

I live in London - I have 3G where I live but with a mile or so I have no 3G access - it is still patchy in the capital city (o2)!

You are right, it isn't confirmed, however, after o2 completing the installation of Edge, or at least it is supposed to be by the end of the month couple with Apple saying they would make the European announcement once 1m units had been sold in the states, together with the fact that on Tuesday morning at 9.45am o2 employees in the UK call centres (can't say for stores, cos I don't know) all have a mandatory meeting are all strong indicators that o2 have the contract and the announcement is being made.

Yatah!

I can't wait.

Its not a load of crap. Data access is so expensive in this country that without an unlimited plan, who cares what speed it will be if you have to pay through the nose to use it?

If O2 do add EDGE to their network (no sign of it here yet) then I'll be reasonably happy with that as a 3 user alone with X-Series available. I just wish Orange would roll out their EDGE service a lot more.

Also on a similar point, if O2 are confirmed as the carrter for the iPhone in the UK, the introduction of EDGE on its GSM network is no cast iron certainty that the iPhone over here will not be 3G - it could be a clause set by Apple for subscribers to have EDGE access outside of the WCDMA coverage area.

The Apple Store in Regent Street will be open until 11pm on the day of the announcement. Could we see an iPhone actual launch on Tuesday?

Damn, 3 months left on my T-Mobile contract
Anyone know what the penalty fees are?
Also, would I have to port my number when I start an o2 contract, or could I do it any time?

Wouldn't surprise me! Apple do have a really good habit of only announcing stuff when it's actually ready to go.

i suspect it will be exclusive contract. At least for a couple of years anyway.

And I can't see why there wouldn't be an unlimited data plan. Someone in a previous post said Apple couldn't insist on that. Why not?

Apple is giving one of the most lucrative contracts to a (almost definitely) single company in each of the three main countries in Europe. They are handing those companies a license to print money. Why would they not put provisions in place to say we want this, that and the next thing.

They had AT&T give unlimited data and whilst, as someone correctly points out, data is incredibly expensive in the UK, but a price plan without unlimited data takes a big chunk out of the iPhones many uses. And whilst it wouldn't rule the iPhone out for me, it would certainly make things a lot better if the plan came with it.

I have been using my (unlocked) iPhone on Orange Edge for the last week and both performance and coverage seem pretty good to me as I have travelled round the country.

http://www.iphoneuklaunch.com/ Makes very interesting reading at the moment, particularly about the French iphone being non 3G and the pictures of the apple store in regent street.

I also opened itunes tonight and found the ringtones tab enabled (maybe this is universal, but why would customers that dont have iphone availability need a ringtones option?) i tried to create one but it quickly dissapears saying check your connection!

Also the apple store is staying open until 11pm tomorrow night.

So maybe just maybe it will be available tomorrow?

Further rumor and speculation, it seems at BMWs show in Frankfurt on display in their car is an iphone running on vodafone,

Of course these images could be faked but it would seem pretty pointless.

Check it out here BMW iPhone

Well I haven't tried it extensively yet, but it's worked everywhere I've been so far (Oxford, Birmingham, Leeds).

I think the press release has come out, because the Independent has published this: http://news.independent.co.uk/sci_te...cle2973546.ece

Well, okay then...

It's an O2 phone, available only through Carphone Warehouse, where Apple makes 40% of profits and will up/down the price freely.

Not that fond of the idea. Plus, will it be 3G? And what size?

I can't upgrade my phone until January, so hopefully they'll have a newer iPhone around then, but I have a feeling LG's new demon is going to be ultimately the better device.

Like a lot of other people on here I would love Orange to have the iPhone
BUT when it comes to Apple, Orange don't want to know, they will not support osx on their internet packages,
their live box will not talk to Apple macs,
the software on their phones will not communicate with Apple macs

Apples and Oranges do not mix

And to think they could make a great smoothie!

Is the IPhone released in the UK today? It's on the telly and radio this morning that today is IPhone release day in england? Or have the media misunderstood?
