Tbh i dont think this is gonna do well here at all.
No 3g or anything like that, no subsidy and on o2 of all networks lol I think there will be an initial rush of apple fans buying this but above that i still doubt that the average joe blogs will buy this. It got absolutely nothing to offer apart from the name Apple. However i will wait and see. |

Where in London did Steve Job announce the launch date? Is there a video of it?

I know I am. This makes the iPod Touch look very appealing to me. Decisions Decisions |

Get an iTouch and a small basic phone. The phone/sms/mms features of the basic phone are better than the iPhone versions.

Good lord, I have just noticed the iPhone tariffs.
£35 p/m gets you 200 mins and £200 text. On Orange the same £35 p/m would get you 500 mins and unlimited texts. WHAT A RIP-OFF! |

What about UK laws regarding your right to unlock a phone? Too many unanswered questions.
But if you buy an unsubsidised phone then its your property to do with as you please i would assume. |

I think the cost of the actual unit at £269 (inc) is about right.
Its the crappy tarriffs that are putting me off. |

i'd say for the revenue sharing. and as a minor point, getting visual voicemail to work.

I'm starting to feel that Apple would have done better to forget the visual voicemail feature and make it open to all networks.

The tariffs are excellent. Here's a comparison I've just done with T-Mobile, and this only gets you the seriously deficient Nokia N95.
Flext 20 + web'n'walk (18 months) £22.50 p/m £219.99 for Nokia N95 £6.99 The Cloud WiFi £199 iPod Touch 8Gb £949.81 over 18 months. I'll take the iPhone thanks. |

i agree. even with a higher priced phone that the £269 to account for the 10% of revenue they would lose out on from the operators. then let people do what they want with the phones.
Like I said, I'm probably going to get one anyway, only because I'm already on a contract anyway and its only £5 extra a month on what I'm paying now. I just think the 18 month contract + paying full price for the phone takes a piss a bit. I'd imagine that Apple had little or no control over the pricing of the tariffs though - the AT&T plans in the US are far better value (even though AT&T are meant to be generally shit). |

Or maybe forget visual voicemail and implement some useful features like "cut and paste", sms forwarding, mms, bluetooth features etc etc.
Besides, most of these things that can all be added in future software updates. First release software is never perfect, anywhere ever. |

I can't remember the last time I used SMS forward or MMS.
The ability to update software is certainly a plus (but nothing the other manufacturers don;t already have) but I find it hard to believe that they decided to work on things like visual voicemail instead of things that are simply more useful. The simple fact that they have email does not negate the fact that its lacking in basic operations to send/receive files/pics over Bluetooth. |

probably because each sw update could lock it again, and then you will have to wait for another unlock solution to appear. Which may not appear as quickly as you might hope, in which case you could be without your phone for a while.
Of course you could decide to not install the upgrades, but then you would be missing out on the new features that everyone is talking about. |
