probably because each sw update could lock it again, and then you will have to wait for another unlock solution to appear. Which may not appear as quickly as you might hope, in which case you could be without your phone for a while.

Of course you could decide to not install the upgrades, but then you would be missing out on the new features that everyone is talking about.
Fair points but that's an awful lot of coulds for getting roped into an uncompetitive contract

And at the speed the crackers/hackers work i doubt it would be much of an inconvenience.

But I appreciate where you're coming from.

Get an iTouch and a small basic phone. The phone/sms/mms features of the basic phone are better than the iPhone versions.
I think people are overlooking the close integration between the iPhone internet functions and its phone. For example if you bring up a web page and just tap on a phone number in it it will dial it automatically. Also, the text message presentation is streets ahead of what I've seen on other smartphones.

Well with such wonderful "close integration" you would at least expect it to have the ability to forward a sms, or pick out a tel number from a sms .... so for me its streets behind most other phones.

I'm not getting into another iphone good/iphone bad argument (although personally I'm waiting for the SE W960).

However one thing I'm dreading about this phone is the amount of braying designers, city boys and other assorted poseurs (like my brother and his friends) who will be ostentatiously flashing this thing around at every opportunity the next time I get back to London and pop out for a drink.
