Does anyone know how this works exactly?

I signed up to it a few months ago, but on my recent bills there is no discounts beside Friends & Family so I have no idea how much I've saved exactly.

You save 25% on BT's usual rates for calling mobiles.

You could sign up for free and no monthly fee to www.call18185.co.uk and just prefix whichever call you want to go over 18185 with 18185 and pay 3p/min + 5p connection weekends and 6p/min + 5p connection to UK mobiles, also call international from 0.5p/min and UK landlines for 5p per call.

It is what is known as an Off Switch Charging product.

This means that the charge you see on the bill is already the reduced amount.

The only way to add up how much you have saved is to take the value on your bill, multiply through by 1.33 and subtract the value on your bill.

Thats exactly correct. Virgin Media's Talk Mobile offers 30% off calls to mobiles and the option only costs £1.50 extra per month.

I could clearly see a difference on my bill when adding this,but for heavy talkers to mobiles I would suggest Talk Anywhere from Virgin Media.

It's a rip off. VM should offer competitive prices without forcing anothre rip-off fee each and every month, whether you call a mobile or not.

Their call charges to mobiles to begin with are a rip off, even with the rip-off £1.50 each and every month the discounted price is still a rip-off!

Get a BT line and use Call 18185 and get calls to UK mobiles for 3p/min weekends and 6p/min weekdays.

OK from a VM landline you can use 18185's 0808 access number for 3p/min weekend mobile calls, but unfortunately the weekday calls are 10p/min, which includes evenings so not always cheaper, but still use 18185 for the cheaper times and accept the high rate from VM too.

Virgin Media are the dearest provider around, there call charges to mobiles and international even with these rip-off extras are still way too expensive.

A 60 minute evening call will soon cost £2.02 on VM, yet the same call on BT would be 4.5p. With a BT line but the FREE Primus Saver 2 service the same call would cost £0.00 .

With 18185 International calls start from 0.5p/min.

With 18185 there is no monthly charge, if you make no calls via them you pay no money.

Because of VM's rip-off phone prices, this is why the huge numbers of people are leaving each quarter.

Thats for the M Telephone package, this package is not designed for that kind of usage, its been designed for weekend use. Calls to 01,02 and 03 numbers and soon 0870 numbers are free to call on saturdays and sundays,BT charges 4.5p per hour per call.

Customers are able to choose the L Telephone package which offers unlimited evening and weekend calls. Theres also XL Telephone package which offers unlimited calls to landlines.

Talk anywhere plans offer inclusive minutes like a mobile phone and gives minutes to call 01,02,03,0845,0870,mobiles and international numbers including expensive destinations like Middle eastern mobiles. Minutes come in 200,400 and 800 ranges.

An bundle of 200 minutes cost £20 per month and includes line rental,free voicemail,free 1471 and in some franchises free warmline.

BT charges too much money for its calling features and doesn't even offer calling features such as quick dial/speed dial and Warmline. In fact BT charge 6p everytime you press 3 to return calls through 1471.

Anonymous caller rejection costs £4 per month on BT whilst it costs just £1.75 with a Virgin Media line. And the calling features pack costs £1 more than Virgin Media's.

And getting through to someone when reporting a fault is like mission impossible, its so automated on BT and when you do get through to someone, its likely to be in India!
