What will change for SCD5?

It seems that with the Gabby Logan and her husband "twist" they're tried to introduce some new elements to the show.

The set has been exactley the same for 4 years now. Should that be changed slightly?

The credits have also been the same (obviously changing the celebrities in them though!), as has the music. Do we want a change of graphics and a re-mix?

Personally, I think that nothing should be vastly changed. Perhaps a different colour scheme for the studio, and a slight mix of the opening music would give SCD5 a fresh lick of paint

I fear SCD could become stale if it's kept exactely the same way year after year.

But then again, if it ain't broke, don't fix it!

I want much better lighting now I've seen DWTS. It can be very drab and unimaginative here.

They could do with a change of judges

Think everything will be the same as last year, including the dances

It would be nice to move out TVC and into a bigger studio. X Factor and Dancing on Ice have bigger stages and SCD is as big as both of them shows.

I'd like to change the presenters. I'd much rather Graham Norton and Claudia did it.

I would LOVE them to change the judges.

I mean, if Italy can have Espen Salberg, Holland can have Monique Van Opstal and South Africa can have Dave Campbell, why can't we have some world class judges who REALLY know what they're talking about?

I think many of the comments made by the current panel have been extremely petty and silly.

A better cameraman would be nice - or at least a slightly calmer one who didn't feel the need to sprint around/across the floor thirteen times in less than a minute to make sure he gets the couple at the weirdest angles imagineable!

Other than that - maybe a guest judge? A different one every week, one thing I really like about So You Think You Can Dance is hearing from all the different judges, and hearing their point of view. It also would mean we could get some really good people from the dance world, because it's not something that would take up loads of their time if they're only there for one week.

I don't think anything will change, though. But that's what I'd like to see.

Definitely agree on the camera works! They literally made me sick last year with their swivelling and swirling!

I believe a guest judge with or someone offering a second opinion (like telling the viewers what they think of the judges' comments etc, not just expert commentary) at the results show before they close the phone line will be interesting.

Improve the camera work from last year and bring back Laurie Holloway and his band.

According to the BBC Press Office it will be once again start with a boys week then a girls week - seems tough to have some of the girls having to perform a rhumba this early in the competition!

"In the first show the boys will dance to stay in the competition performing either a waltz or a cha-cha-cha whilst the girls remain safe and perform a group number.

Then it's the girls' turn in week two to dance to be in with a chance to stay as they perform either a quickstep or a rumba. The boys will perform a group number and will all return for week three when it's every couple for themselves.

From the off, the couples will face the judges and the public vote. In week one a male will go, in week two a female will go and in the third week the lowest scoring pair starts leaving the competition"

That's something I would have changed- it would be better if no-one left in the first week, so that everyone gets to do ballroom and latin before the first elimination.

The swirly cameras

I hope they change the early weeks where the men dance one week and the women the next I prefered it when we could vote for everyone

I've always thaught that some day they would change the format but they havent.

I came up with the idea of separating the celebs in to 4 groups according to there celeb status and separating the categories so their would be 'Sportsmen 'category, 'Actors and actrsses', 'Singers' and 'TV stars' each led by a judge buy a judge but I quickly found it would most probably be an unpopular change and also getting rid of Tess would be a good idea.

That would make it very X Factor wouldn't it! And I've always hated that part of the XFactor, the way the judges slate other acts just to get at each other

I actually wouldn't change that much about SCD, other than the swirly cameras and the inconsistencies of the judging.

I quite agree. The rumba is difficult to dance and hard for us ignorant audience to appreciate. I'm sure Ian and Mica wouldn't have gone out first week if they had been given something more lively (and a better dress for Mica). I feel sorry for the ladies who have to do it this year.

it would be nice if on interactive they had commentary and a static camera so purists like me could watch without getting travel sick

i'd also like the bbc to keep the interactive on the same channel - 301 or 302 so that i can record both the interactive and the standard sucessfully each week

Yes hopefully the producers will have got the message & told the cameramen to stop swivelling & swirling. They always seemed to manage to do it when there was a great bit of footwork, so we would hear about it but miss seeing it .
I'm not gonna watch the first two weeks if it's that crap-y men then women fiasco - it was rubbish last year. I'll watch DWTS on UKGold to keep me satisfied, at least they have good camera work & a better format imo.

New presenters would be good - I mean, I love Bruce Forsyth, but I'd love to see Graham Norton in his place.

Tess is fine, don't need to replace her (haha, I'd love to see Graham and Tess dancing at the beginning). Leave Claudia on ITT, she loves it there, and if she did the main show, who would replace her?!?!?!

Apart from that, woulnd't change anything.

I like our judges apart from Arlene who just fancies a bloke and decides the score on that, and I dont like them all havin favourites takes the biscuit. but yeah we should have a world class dancer as a judge too.
and I want to see more of the pros and backstage stuff this year on ITT its not just about the celebs

As much as I like SCD would switch off and never watch again if the presenters replaced by Norton or claudia - whilst Claudia is fine on the BBC2 show would not like her to do main one - and after the farce of the European Dance Presenting Graham is awful well IMO

Sadly have to agree re all the judges being changed I think the show needs a new perspective. I like Len Goodman but he is so changed since he started doing SCD and especially since doing DWS - think he believes the BBC hype on him, he never was a 'top' notch adjudicator - a great teacher and great lecturer though.

BBC won't change it though, the beeb plugged Peggy Spencer re dancing years after she was past her best and when the Penge were not longer amongst the top formation teams

We all have to remember that this is a prime time entetainment show first, dance contest second.

Some of the criticisms here, while valid, would make it a lesser production for the bulk of the audience. Flashy camerawork over static shots (but great idea to offer an option via interactive), less technical but more personality judges are here to stay as it serves the entertainment audience better. They want the razzle dazzle, they love the judge's arguments, it makes it a less dry experience that a more technical focussed programme.

They can use interactive to provide a different experience but the main show is pretty much perfect as is. I wouldn't mess with the theme even as much as a remix, they always tend to sound a little forced and are rarely popular.

Re: the presenters. My dislike of Claudia is well known on this board and the Eurovision proved how dreadful she is. Problem is there is no one quite like Brucie, the variety tradition is dead on TV.

If he retired ,it would be time to move the entire presentation team and look of the show in a new direction. At a minimum, they would then have to go down the US model with an older, non-dancing host and slicker production with less cock-ups.

What they should do is go back to (was it?) Blackpool again: that was a brilliant experience in a bigger arena. Ideally go there for the final but too close to Xmas so i imagine it is booked out solid.

Get rid of the Girls and Boys weeks at the begining. That is just so unfair to them all.

I agree with pp that a trip back to Blackpool should be in order I love the Tower Ballroom (esp the cream teas)

Remind the judges to be totally impartial

Marks should reflect actual rather than perceived/ expected performance - they should be nothing to do with fame/ age/ friendships. Mistakes to be penalised for ALL competitors

Comments should be constructive rather than personal or just downright nasty.

Dancers to be allowed to dance without microphones - there is NO reason why Bruce can't have a hand held one for the post dance chat.

Can we have a breakdown of the public vote as well as the judges... ie we have 1-x from the judges - can we see a scoreboard showing the 1 -x from the public as well

Fair training footage of all contestants to be shown - not just the "controversial" bits

And on ITT - no plugging of books/ records/ shows etc by so called "celebs"

Only have guest stars who actually watch and enjoy the programme and can add something to the discussion. And a fair balance of celeb supporters for ALL contestants....
