Can anyone recommend a cheap (about £30 or less) DVD player that I can make multi-region?

Even better would be if the DVD player were available locally, say at Tesco, ASDA, Comet etc.

I've got a few Region one DVDs, which I currently play in a TV/DVD combo, but I'd like to be able to play them through my main TV setup.

Thanks.

You would be hard pushed to find a cheap DVD player that couldn't be made multi-region. The only ones that people struggle with these days, or have to take to a specialist to modify by opening the box up and wielding the soldering iron, are the more expensive ones provided by the big names - Sony, Pioneer, Panasonic, Toshiba etc. Any £20 machine form Asda or Tesco will be multi-region straight out of the box, or will be easily adaptable after five minutes searching on google.

Thanks for that broadz.

How would I go about finding a hack for a "Tesco" or "ASDA" brand player?

I realise they are made by a major manufacturer and "badged" for the supermarket, but I was wondering how I could find out the real maker and model number, so I could track down the hacking code?

Matsui DVD320 at Currys - £24.99, SCART cable NOT included.

The hack for multi-region functionality is on their website.

To get to the hack, go to http://www.currys.co.uk , then select:

TV DVD and Video -> DVD -> DVD Players -> DVD320

Looks like the DVD229 will also do it, and is £5 less, however it does not appear to do RGB picture output.

Have never used either unit, so can't vouch for the quality, but it appears to fit the criteria you've specified.

Sainsburys are still selling the Alba DVD player I bought a while back from Argos. Under £20 and will play region 1 straight from the box. It also plays -R, +R, -RW without problems. (it may play +RW, but I have not tried those).

I've found one, and it didn't even need hacking.

Got a Technika DVD 1031 from Tesco for £22-97, and it's multi-region straight from the box.
