Do you/Why do you favour Strictly over The X Factor?

Please explain why anyone would?

To me the X factor seems so much better.

I love the dancing. The personalities are much better. I abhor Louis Walsh. I hate the constant sniping between the judges on X-factor. There was a certain amount of it in last years Strictly, probably a reason I didn't like it as much as previous series, but nothing like the same amount as on X-factor. Also, Bruce Forsyth over Kate Thornton any day, and I'm not a massive Dermot O'Leary fan either so I can't see him changing my mind.

If X-factor was on at a different time, I'd probably watch it if I was in. But when it's a choice between the two, strictly wins every time.

All the reasons mentioned above plus better music, better costumes, more entertaining - basically a much classier show.

For me, X-factor has too much hype, too much hot air. Loud music, (artificially) loud and steroidal reactions from the audience (personal impression/perception).

ALL the judges X-factor behaved like clowns (actually Bruno can compete with them at times).

All in all, X-factor is less classy, more crass-y. Not my cup of tea.

Gosh, and it rhymes!

There is just no competition .

The X factor for me is a show full of desperate wannabes caught up in the idea that they can be famous and falsely encouraged by doting families, friends and teachers

Everything everyone has said, and as I can't hold a tune but can dance (OK-ish) I relate more to SCD. I really can't stand Louis Walsh and couldn't bear Kate Thornton so even though I have sky+, making a clash irrelevant, I still didn't/won't watch TXF.

Strictly just seems more exciting than X factor - i do watch X factor but i get annoyed with some of the stories people have as to why they audition

With Strictly you can watch people learn a new skill and see who gets better through the weeks. Also the costumes and orchestra are better

Because I can't stand ITV... I just find anything they do cheap version of something done on BBC first. I get annoyed with the sob stories and the americanisations, with the judges supposedly hating each other. I just can't stand it ... plus all those bloody add breaks.

Strictly has more than everything I want5 ut of programme, I love dancing and the professionals never fail to captivate me with their performances and choreography, not to mention most of them are lovely, it's so much realer than the x factor.

I don't respect Simon C, used to really like Sharon O but I think she has totally lost all credibility and as for the other fella...well why bother?

I really liked Pop Idol and was hooked on the Gareth V Will series - but I got bored with it after that - recently I read Ben Elton's book about it which showed what a set-up the whole thing is...

bit harsh on ITV! Don't forget they do Corrie as well you know!!!! Personally I love both programmes - X Factor is very corny at times but I just take that as it is - and I love Strictly because of the dancing and I love watching the rehearsals and how they get to the performance. I just record one and watch the other.

Not 'anything they do'. EastEnders and Fame Acad were/are copycat shows.

I don't like the kind of music they all sing on the X-Factor, I watched a bit last year because I really liked Ben and Ray but usually there isn't many acts that I WANT to listen to over watching people dance...

XFactor just feels cheaper. And in the end it's just a ploy to get someone on the market who can put a few quid in Cowell and friends pockets.

Don't get me wrong - I watch the show but recorded. That way I can fast forward through all the annoying bits including the adverts.

SCD is something different. I love the creativity involved. There's an excitement in not knowing what's going to happen next dance, who's going to be good etc. I don't really get that with the X Factor.

I prefer SCD for the reasons already stated.

The X Factor Sob Stories and weepy backing tracks annoy me

It is so predictable

They hype it up to make it look as though winning is important, it's not, just look at Steve and Shayne, where are they now?

SCD is more fun

It's not about lining the pockets of Simon Cowell and the rest

It's basically just a great show to watch, I love the dancing, the judges, the outfits, the music and the guest singers.

I find SCD interesting. None of the singers on The X Factor are the type of artists i would like or be interested in buying.

As a rule I don't see much improvement in the X Factor singers from the start of the show to the end. Because the SCD celebs are beginners, some of them improve enormously by the end of the show, which I find more interesting to watch.

I don't find much difference from one show to the next on X Factor- the judges normally manipulate the theme shows so that the singers are doing the same kind of thing every week. On SCD with people switching from Cha Cha to Tango to Jive, every show is different.

I don't like the judges on either show but XF are no better than SCD.

The pros provide continuity from one series to the next on SCD, so even if I'm not expecting much from the celebs I'm still excited to watch the pros dancing again.

I don't hate XF, I normally record the repeat during the week and fast forward through the bits I don't like. But if they didn't repeat it during the week I would give it up without hesitation. It just doesn't compare to SCD.

I think this is such a good point and one I hadn't thought of in quite that way . Very true.

Dont like to show!! dont like the judges, dont like the host, dont like the idea of the show, singing isnt a passion of mine like dancing is - SCD is classy, entertaining, and its something I am passionate about and just 100% better than X-Factor

I only watch the auditions on XF well the bad ones anyway shame on me! and then once the main show starts I just seem to lose interest

Others have pretty much covered it.

I would just add that I have a long-standing antipathy towards ITV(1).

I've always found it vaguely tacky and downmarket and not in a good way...even going back to my earliest TV memories when there was almost no choice (just 3 channels - hard to believe now).

Invariably I just don't like the way ITV produces its shows. DOI is a good comparison...very similar concept and format to 'Strictly' but not a patch on it IMO.

Apart from sport which is not available to me elsewhere e.g. Champions League, F1, Rugby WC, I could happily live without ITV1.

I watch both strictly and x factor and its not a case of "Favouring" one over the other as the two shows are totally different(or is that just me who thinks that?). One is a show about dancing(with the added bonus of it being celebs) and the other is a singing contest(non celebs). Besides the fact that there is a phone vote and judges there is no simarlarity between the shows(at least not for me!)

I really don't think there is much to choose between the beeb and ITV cetainly don't find ITV 'tacky' at least they pay their own way and don't give themselves huge bonuses or pay people like Jonathan Ross large salaries from taxpayers money!!!

As for DOI I really think ITV's presentation of the show far better than the skating version BBC did - as the biggest show of the year audience wise (more than SCD or X Factor) it cetainly is doing ok
