The service isn't too bad,but becareful. Britain doesn't look beyond the word 'Free' and there is certainly a catch to this.

Calls to mobiles and international numbers are more expensive than BT.

I would suggest Tiscali phone and Broadband which offers internet and unlimited landline calls for £14.99 per month. And if you live in London or parts of Hertfordshire, you may well be able to get Tiscali TV.

Stay away from Tiscali I was with there phone service for 16 months on there old free weekend package but was with BT for line rental and within that time had 2 billing mistakes from Tiscali for phone and there phone service went down once for an hour. I was on a Tiscali dial up package at the time to and I was only every 90% happy with them. I got everything with BT again and im 96% happy with the BT service. My broadband is even with BT.

You could also try Virgin Media.

http://allyours.virginmedia.com/webs...ct.do?id=11021

That link will take you to the £20 bundle which offers M Telephone package,Basic TV and 2MB Broadband for £20 per month. This telephone package is ideal if you make lots of calls to landlines during the weekend as the calls to landlines on saturdays and sundays are free. During the week beware of the 3p per minute calls!

You can also take advantage of the Virgin Mobile offer with this, it gives 300 inclusive anynet anytime minutes and 300 anytime anynet texts for an extra £10 per month.

Alternatively, if you call anywhere at anytime from your homephone try these packages:

Talk anywhere 200 which offers 200 minutes to call 01,02,03,0845,0870,mobiles and international numbers for £20 per month including line rental. 2MB Broadband costs £4.50 per month for new customers (Only if Telephone service is taken). So if you take out Talk anywhere 200 plus £4.50 per month 2MB Broadband with the option to take out free basic TV, the total would be: £24.50

Virgin Media also offer 400 minutes and 800 minutes, take a look at the website for more details.

If you mainly call landlines and just want 2MB broadband try these phone packages:

M Telephone package: Free weekend calls,3p per minute calls to landlines during the week plus £4.50 per month 2mb broadband. Total: £15.50 per month with the option to take free basic TV.

L Telephone Package: Free evening and weekend calls to landlines,3p per minute daytime calls to landlines plus £4.50 per month 2MB broadband. Total: £19 per month with the option to take free basic TV.

XL Telephone package: Unlimited calls to landlines plus £4.50 2mb broadband. Total: £24 per month with the option to take free basic TV.

And with all above packages, you are entitled to the £10 per month 300 mins and text deal with Virgin Mobile!

Hope this helps.

I had heard Virgin had good offer for its packages but what if the person is in a non cable area do Vigin still offer a phone service.

Virgin Media have relaunched the off-net service which used to be called NTL Freedom.

The following services are available:

Up to 8 Mbps
Unlimited downloads
Anytime calls to UK landlines
PCguard Total - complete protection
Virgin Free TV or a free Wireless Kit included

All that for £19.99 per month and for an extra £10 per month, you can get the Virgin Mobile £10 per month 300 mins and texts deal.

I just did a postcode search for an address in a village which is very rural, so if the above services available there,i'm sure they'll be available wherever you are.

Virgin Media's ADSL service is subject to a Fair Use Policy and they have implemented throttling on their service, but unlike the throttling on their cable service where your connection is throttled for 4 hours, on their ADSL service they throttle it for 1 week.

Though if you take up the offer and go with the calls package only use them for the free calls because they rip you off on the other call charges, you can hop back onto BT with 1280 and use Call 18185 for cheaper calls to mobiles and international.

As for the PO phone service if you take their line rental they can and do block cheap call access, so if you make calls outside any inclusive package you will usually find you end up paying more in the end.

I'd keep line rental with BT opt for paying by direct debit and go paper free, get free caller display £10.50 per month. Then sign up for Primus Saver 2 and get inclusive evening and weekend calls for no monthly fee. Also use Call 18185 for other calls.
