Sony-strk880
I think I have identified a AV amp/reciever that I want to buy: http://www.richersounds.com/showprod...d=SONY-STRK880
A couple of questions: 1) Its a 6.1 system. I have a set of 5.1 speakers. Could I connect these and get 5.1 sound or will I be forced to buy new speakers? 2) Regardless of the above, some web sources indicate that it comes with speakers but the richer sounds website doesnt specify - which is correct? 3) Can I get both sound and video sent to the reciever via the HDMI sockets or do I need to connect both the HDMI (For video) and optical (For audio). 4) Assuming that (3) is a yes, another thread I have seen implied that this reciever doesnt support surround sound via HDMI. Is this true? If so I guess I will have to use the multi cable method. See here: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/s...d.php?t=545662 5) If it turns out I do need seperate cables for sound and video then does this mean that this impending copy protection (HDCP I think its called) will stop playback? Or is it only an issue if the video isnt send via HDMI? 6) Finally. Will this allow a full 1080p picture to get through to the TV? I have heard some boxes are limited in the resolution they can pass through. Or does this only apply if the reciever has an upsampling facility (Which I dont THINK this does)? Basically I want to connect a PS3 and V+ box into this and then into the TV via HDMI. I want the surround sound to come out of the 5.1 speakers and to use the TV for picture only. In another thread someone reccomended another amp but it didnt have HDMI connectivity and I have read that some copy protection being introduced might cause problems without a HDMI interface so thats why I have decided to go for a reciever with HDMI. Opinions on my choice of amp also welcome ![]() Oh - and sorry for the abundance of questions!! |
