Component is HD - the red, green and blue and only carried video down these cables.

Composite is SD - yellow (video), red and white (audio).

Does the Xbox have HDMI? Wont you be looking to upgrade to an HD Ready TV and connect via HDMI.

At some point you may also go down the HD route for TV or for DVD.

The Xbox elite has HDMI I think, but not the white ones, just component for them.
