But what was surprising is that ALL of them were pretty good this week - I think it'll be Mark & Floyd in the bottom 2 but who knows???

Ewww. That's NOT VW at all! Even Helio is disappointing to me (head sticking out like that is NOT pleasant to look at for a ballroom dance)...

Ridiculous scores, as always...

I'd be all for that, but I think he's been offered some work choreographing some Broadway shows and he's thinking of getting back into competing again.

Actually, being a Maks fan I noticed that he was missing from all the backstage shots when he wasn't dancing and wondered what was wrong. He posted on his official message board in the forum after the show to thank everyone for their support and not to be too disappointed with their marks. He said he was having so much fun dancing with Mel and the reason he wasn't shown backstage was that he has a severe ear infection and wasn't feeling great so had to lie down in his dressing room when he wasn't dancing.

I think Floyd was probably the worst (but there again of the ones left he's probably the furthest away from a natural dancer), but like you say who knows who will go, perhaps his fans will be shocked into voting after he was in the bottom two last week.

Good to see Jennie and Derek get a 10, they deserve it awful music, great paso. Jennie and Jane both move really well.
Helio's shoulders and hold looked off, he was really hunched up especially when they did the fleckerl (?) mid routine. Didn't like his arm movement when out of hold either
Floyd's legs always look wrong, always bent. I thought he showed great acting in the paso, very good cape action and leap but didn't think he was that good.
Cameron was a surprise, his best dance so far, loved the end move.
Mark should be gone this week.

Corky and Shirley Ballas choreograph for Marky, Julianne, and Derek; and Cheryl - who is always praised for her choreography - has NEVER choreographed her own numbers.”

I'm a bit biased as I'm a fan of Maks, but he does sometimes get criticised for his choreography, which I always find quite good, with plenty of content and I like the way he always tries to portray a story, although I know he can sometimes be a bit too theatrical for some people's taste.
”

I had read that Nick Kosovich had helped both Maks and Tony with their choreography in series 2. Nick was shown in rehearsals with Maks so I think this is at least partly true true.
There was supposed to be a rule that pros have to choreograph their own routines but I don't know how they would stop this from happening. I wouldn't be surprised if the pro's at least consulted others about routines.
With Maks I think the steps are there but I find most of his dances are not very memorable, but that could be because I don't find him that interesting as a performer.
I'd be surprised to find out that Cheryl and Edyta had someone else actually create their routines. Besides her dances with Drew, Cheryl's routines are pretty unoriginal from partner to partner

For the first time, I too have been disappointed with the lack of traditional ballroom. Usually I love the smooth styles, but this week it just looked silly. You can't just call a dance a VW because the music is waltz music.

Nick Kosovitch choreographed Cheryl and Drew's 'thriller' routine.
BTW - Chery and Drew dancing tonight (again) - they already did last season

La Rhumba, thanks for your hilarious and insightful review of last night's show. I almost feel I was watching it as well.
So gutted to miss it, so of course I was hanging on your every word.
At this stage, there's a few contenders for the title it seems. I would imagine La Rhumba, that Mark is maybe getting a bit cheesed off with Sabrina's forceful personality.
I'm still hoping for Mark and Julianne to do another pro dance. They are such brilliant dancers

You're welcome bigtoe, I did it with you in mind.
Only sorry that Raph's webcam went on the blink again, funnily enough the picture quality was really good till that point, and it would have to be Derek & Julianne's couples we missed Arrrrgh!! That was truly Sod's law!!

I'm off to check the vids of the dances I've missed now.

BTW maybe they are having to fill a bit as Gloria Estefan had to pull out of the show due to her Mum being ill? So roped in Drew & Cheryl, as they were both free?

Really hoping for a Mark & Julianne exhib too. He's a quality dancer, but hasn't really come through yet as a personality as Sabrina is so full on, we're actually getting more of Derek as a person of the new pros.

Mixed reviews of Julianne and Helio this week. His head bobbing and loss of posture out of hold. Viewers seem to think the judges overly kind. Definately tensions with them in practice. Partly due to his injuries and jet lag and all round exhaustion. Hard to tell with Julianne as she was quite snippy with Apolo at times last season. (Although some say her recent split with the boyfriend may not have helped). I wasn't mad about the routine, parts of it were ok. Julianne looked stunning though.
A lot of the dances on DWTS are really just American Smooth.
Derek continues to impress, I just love his choreography. Although Jenny is improving, I'd still like to have seen him wth someone more his own age. But I prefer seeing her progress, than Sabrina who has nowhere to go

Helio & Julianne - VW
I totally agree with the previous comments about Julianne & Helio's performance. They seem to have been marked on the fact that they have chemistry, Julianne looks stunning every week - Bruno said "you are a sparkling couple".
Um, yes they are, and I love them too, however where was the VW in their dance? It bore no relation to a VW, not even the Smooth version, and was nowhere near as good as either Mel & Maks, who did a great fleckerl, and didn't stop spinning and turning all routine. Or Jane & Tony's, which was a beautifully elegant VW - albeit the Smooth version - and the choreography and style matched the requirements.
The marking of 3x9s for H&J was gross overscoring IMO, however much I like them as a couple, this was a poorly choreographed dance by Julianne, it was not an exhib, but supposed to be a VW and clearly was not! Apart from the fact that Helio's posture was very poor and he had hunched shoulders throughout! The part where the lyric said "the taste" and she choreographed them both wiping their mouths was sooo naff! Plus it did not fit into a VW for crying out loud! Why give them a spec each week? Just let them choreograph whatever they want, as the Ballroom side of DWTS is just a veneer for whatever the pros want to come up with if the Judges are going to score 3x9 and Carrie-bloody-Ann is going to get tearful at the sight of Helio in a white suit. Yes, he's a racing driver, and is doing wonderfully well, however this was technically and artistically not worth 9s - sorry.

Jenni & Derek - Paso
Stunning choreography and performance by Derek, I love his dancing soooo much!! To that end I find myself watching him more than Jenni, however she has improved alot, and combined beautifully with him to present a fantastic Paso. I just wish she'd actually respect Derek a bit more and dance for him and be inspired by him and not just do it for her "husband and family", she's a very lucky girl to be getting to dance with such a maestro every week! Derek's flair and talent reminds me why I love Dance sooo much. Thank Heavens Bruno found time to actually mention and praise his choreography, and as for Carrie-Ann's 8, the woman is demented! Len's 10 was more like it, and I was surprised that Bruno gave 9 and not a 10 too. Jenni's dress was absolutely stunning, and they both cut a dashing Flamenco figure out there, matching beautifully. Absolutely LOVED it! Oh, yes, the music was crap, but the dancing so good, I was still able to enjoy it, thankfully.

BTW had to mention Tom's funny line in the intro:

Samantha:"For the first time we have the Viennese Waltz"

Tom:"So be prepared for some Freudian slips".

LOL! Very amusing, and on another intellectual plane of jokes to Brucie's Butlins relics.

He's not replying to any messages on his comments page either, people begging him to webcast...

I left one too.

Looks like a Journo is trying to contact him about a story she's doing on the "Lifts Scandal". Must look out for it.

Having watched the videos again, I'm flabbergasted that Carrie-Ann voted Helio and Marie's VWs equal 9, but both Jane and Mel below them. Both Mel & Jane's dances were actually VWs and contained much more content and choreo befitting a VW. So don't know where CA is coming from.

Also on second viewing Edyta's choreo in the Paso was pretty good for her, and Cameron danced it well, however I've discovered what it is about her work that leaves me unimpressed. It's so bitty, it goes from highlight to highlight with no interesting linking moves and choreo. Compare that to Derek's choreo, which holds your interest for the entire dance and you don't know what's coming next. Edyta's *in betweens* leave alot to be desired, though no doubt there were a couple of nice highlights yesterday. I'm just sick of seeing her body flashing, even in training, it was the same!

Tom's jokes, mostly off the cuff, were really funny last night!

Samantha: "You can use a phonebooth to vote too"
Tom: "If anybody's seen a phonebooth recently do let me know, I haven't seen one in ages!"

Tom: "Next week we have the Latin dances Samba & Rhumba, so vote for who you want to see half naked!"

Oooh goss, who was the boyfriend?

I'm sensing that somehow the Houghs are not as strict Mormons as the Osmonds....

Mel & Maks make the British Press with lots of pics - it's the Carrie-Ann "Trucker" comment!

Also I see that bald bloke who jumps up and applauds every week is her husband! Didn't even know she was married!

LOL at this hysterical blog, with a full and frank account of the Results Show. Don't always agree with the comments, but very interested to read this guy's opinions!

OMG at which other couple was in Bottom 2!

What's going on with GAP for crying out loud? I thought Carrie-Ann said they "knew Ballroom Dancing"? My eye they do!

Oh the other bottom 2 couple is a complete joke!

Their dance was really beautiful and way undermarked complared to Sabrina.....

Pleased to see Mark go through though - even though he is this season's Billy Ray

Mark must be getting a few votes for how much effort he is putting into it, even if he doesn't always succeed...either that or he's paying people to vote. No bad thing Floyd going he's got his fight to train for, Karina said some nice words at the end. Looks like Mel B's run on DWTS could be as short as Heather's.
I liked the samba demo, not sure if Anna and Maks have danced together before but they have good chemistry. Also strangely the singer looked a lot like a young Marie Osmond!
Thought Wayne Newton was awful.

Yes, I remember he was mentioned as a co-coreographer when the dance was nominated for an Emmy

I was shocked too that Mel and Maks were in the bottom two, but unfortunately they were in the dodgy middle group so I guess it can be expected.

Mark should really be the next to leave, but I think he's going to be the one this year who comes bottom with the judges but manages to knock out some of the better dancers as a result of the public vote. There's quite a lot of talk on the DWTS forums that he's buying his votes ..lol.

I agree Stella Street that Mel probably won't last much longer, unfortunately she doesn't have the fan base in the US like the other contestants, she's going to have to score really well with the judges in order to stay in.
