From the reaction on the DWTS forums people seem to think the finale was a big let down. If so, that's a real shame!

I'm bummed Helio's freestyle got the highest score of the night. No matter how well he danced it, I just don't think he has enough dance skill to be worth 10s. No offense to any of his fans... I just feel like it's a bit of manipulation to make it close at the top.

I just watched their final, weird. Marie's showdance was a mess, i'm suprised that her pro would produce something like that.

1. Mel & Maks started off round 1, the Judge's choice round, with the Cha Cha, the very first dance they performed together. This time they used the soundtrack to Car Wash, and scored: 9,9,10
It was very good technically, but too much faffing around at the beginning with Mel on her hubby's lap, and wearing a very revealing eye popping outfit for a family show, knowing how prudish parts of America can be. Not their best.

2. Marie & Jonathan - Samba revisited. scores: 8,8,8
Another comedy routine, more of the same we've seen before. An underwhelming show so far, and ditching the Ballroom round was a big mistake IMO. You need to start off with it and build to the Latin and Freestyle. It's a dance comp.

3. Helio & Julianne - Jive - Let's Twist Again
Wearing pink and black, Julianne looked a nerdy, cute teen from the 50s, charming routine, but the Judges spotted several footwork errors by Helio. However lovely *performance* and you gotta love this couple. Probably won this round, barring mistakes, in terms of audience votes, on performance and charm alone.
Mel's dance and look was just too X Rated.
This dance was supposed to improve on their first effort at the rhythm, and Helio & Julianne's Jive definitely did that. scores: 8,8,9

Showdance/Freestyle

4. Mel & Maks - Slow Hip Hop Groove stylee
Hmmmm, not to my taste. 2 underwhelming routines tonight after 2 Gems last week.
This was like a Spice Girls Tour promotion routine, and what you'd expect to see Mel do in concert. It did not showcase her amazing skill or technique as a dancer one iota. They performed it well, for what it was, with a couple of very good lifts, but overall not very exciting and a wasted opportunity IMO. Again she looked trampy wearing black hotpants and a red low cut top with a lot of boobage on view.
scores: 9,9,9

The Spice Girls in the audience were booing Carrie-Ann's comments and she told them to pipe down!

5. Marie & Jonathan - Doll Gate! Start Me Up by the Stones
Scores: 8,7,7 It was Muppetgate all over again from SCD 3! The same stunned audience reaction and embarrassed silence!!
Now was this a Doll/QVC Promotion or a Freestyle dance of entertainment and fun?
Marie actually played the character of an inanimate doll very well, she did some excellent lifts and I was impressed with her flexibility for a lady in her late 40s, but oh dear, Jonathan, why didn't Anna Trebunskaya tell you to ditch the idea and come up with something more sophisticated to showcase Marie's many talents? Precious little applause frankly by the studio audience. A great shame. And Marie looked positively creepy, like from a Horror film close up.

6. Helio & Julianne - A Sixties Classic
Kind of a Go-Go, 60s, fun dance, very free wheeling and happy, started off in black racing leathers and stripped down to pink again. Helio performed so well as usual, and did some very tricky lifts, as a) he's a Dance/Partner Novice, and b) not much bigger than Julianne. Not as spectacular as Julianne's Freestyle for Apolo, but I'm not a Hip Hop Fan, so I enjoyed this more. Len said it: "Best Freestyle of the night". Scores: 9,10,10
Carrie-Ann did not give one 10 tonight, who'd have thought it?

WOW! After last week's spectacularly exciting show with superb dancing, what a let down this was. Bitterly disappointing, and Jennie & Derek must've been watching thinking, 'we could've done better'.....Not to mention Sabrina & Mark.

Based on tonight's performances alone, my winners would be Helio & Julianne
a) For their 2 dances combined, they were the most entertaining by far, and Helio sure can dance!
b) The audience reaction to them was overwhelmingly the best .
However they scored one point less than Mel & Maks from the Judges overall, so this may tell when the audience vote is combined, I don't know, Maths isn't my strong point, but the extra point may prove important in the end. We'll see tomorrow night. DWTS needs a rethink for next year's Finale format. Go back to how it was before if you ask me. This was a helluva flop!!

The 9, 9, 9 for their freestyle is so obviously a setup so that she's not too far ahead of the others (or maybe even behind Helio) at the end of the show. I refuse to believe it wasn't fabulous...lol.
Believe me, it wasn't. Check out the video before imagining it was a fix.

Wasn't a patch on last year's, and I badly missed the Ballroom round.

I can assure you, it was nothing like that at all.
Wait till you see the performances, though details were available for everybody how to watch live in this forum.

I agree. But who knows if it was his idea or hers? She never stopped mentioning her flippin' dolls all night!

Woah! I hadn't seen that before Tissy, thanks for posting.

Well, not too diplomatic of Maks before the Final, hope it doesn't affect his and Mel's votes.

TBH I wish he'd kept his opinions to himself and choreographed 2 better routines!

Mel's outfit was revealing, but not more than any of Edyta's. I didn't find the performance especially racy, either, so I'm not sure that the sex appeal will be held against them.

But Helio & Julianne's cute approach was probably the smarter/safer bet, so they could be in best position, as you speculated.

If Mel was in the British version of this, she would walk it!
I'm gonna start a campaign to get Maks over here to dance on Strictly. He'd be a welcome addition

Mel and Maks blew it last night what a poor freestyle that was too much of Maks showing himself off instead of his partner - why do we need him on SCD FGS

Hate to say it, but I'm disappointed at the standard for a final - far too much faffing about and not enough proper dancing as Len would say! Don't really care who wins now - I never thought I'd say that.

Absolutely!!!

...definitely more excited about DWTS than SCD.
I think I've found DWTS the more exciting show, probably helped a lot by Julianne's choregraphy (and they have Maks for the laydees too).

I'll wait to see it all (plus tonight's stuff) on the 3-hour marathon on UKTV Gold on Friday (with slightly lessened expectations now).

(Interesting contrast between the shows in that, in the DWTS results show, they have an encore of the best dance; whereas in SCD they go for an embarrassing repeat of the 2 worst performances).

That was an average finale!

Apart from Helio's freestyle which should have them clinch the title, I hope, it was really poor show as a whole.

Marie's freestyle was painful to watch...what the hell was Jonathan thinking coming up with that shite choreography!

Why did Julianne opted to do Jive instead of either Quickstep or Foxtrot where Helio excels in performing????

Very disappointing end to the series.
