Hi jacquiann, so sorry you saw the result, people can be so thoughtless.

Yes, it definitely was a British format sold around the world, thought alot more countries do actually follow the ABC style of doing it and ofcourse their title of DWTS.

It suddenly occurred to me this weekend why the American show just flows better, and the excitement is upheld, it's because it doesn't have to come to a juddering halt every few minutes for Bruce to tell a contrived joke. The funny ones are fine, but too often they're just plain embarrasingly bad. Tom throws in a funny line off the cuff when reacting to a situation or something that's been said, whereas Bruce's remarks go all round the houses before he gets to a punchline. I used to think it was just his long introduction at the start of the show, but no, I really noticed this weekend how every couple's dance is preceded by a monologue from Brucie before the training VT and they're called to the floor.

I wish it was the loss of Kelly that affected the contestants this week, but no, they only ever mentioned the strain of 2 dances and we saw lots of tears over that. It was a relief they actually brought Brendan on mid way through Saturday's show to acknowledge his departure and say goodbye.

My enthusiasm was somewhat rekindled with Gethin's superb performances, and this evening's beautiful Waltz from Vincent & Flavia. It looks like the Results show will stay on a Sunday as the ratings are so good, but the BBC definitely needs to look at the main show for next season, mainly the Judges/Presentation and the whole way of presenting the couples both on SCD and ITT. There's too much irritation and annoyance and unfairness for it not to irk and take away from the pleasure of watching.

I so agree with you about Tom v Bruce, they are miles apart in terms of ability. Bruce thinks the show is all about himself, Tom just acts as the supporting link between dancers never trying to overshadow the judges or the dancers. I don't mind Bruces' jokes although they're not often that funny, but why the hell does he have to explain every single one! This is what I hate about Bruce, does he think we're all so stupid we don't get his level of wit.

Tom Bergeron is fast becoming my favourite presenter on UK and US television period. I love his dry wit and the fact that he doesn't patronise his audience by waiting for/ encouraging the laugh from the audience.

I think the only reason the UK show is called Strictly Come Dancing is due to having had Come Dancing before it, and for the first series it let people know exactly what the show as simply by the name. But every other country seems to call their version Dancing with The Stars. I've never really seen a DWTS show from start to finish but I've seen all the dances this reason and all of the results shows each time. I have to agree with La Rhumba the show just flows better, I also liked the fact that this year in the main show we got a segment on the pro's, has that ever happened on SCD? The pro's are equally as important as the celebs. I noticed on SCD when they show the number to vote, its for exaple Gabby 090 etc & James. The pro's name come below the celeb and the number, also when Bruce introduces them its the celeb, applause then the pro. They are couples on DWTS all seemed to be intriduced together and then come to applase.

Only in South Africa did they keep the title of SCD.

I agree Sergei, it was very exciting to start off the seasons with a fabulous Pro dance. I remember the first one I ever saw on BBC last Summer for the start of season 4 - the Ballroom Blitz - it was Fantastic, and just filled you with excitement for the whole series!

A couple of times when diehard fans of the pros have been in the SCD audience and have cheered after their name was announced - in the first show this series for Nicole Cutler - Brucie just looked confused and said "are you alright dear?" as though why would someone cheer for a pro?

I do agree mscaviy, Tom sees himself as a conduit to the show running smoothly through him, not the star, as Brucie does, so therefore must have his *turn* every week.

I am also a Tom Bergeron fan
I love his sense of humour and wit and his jokes never feel "forced".

I was wondering if you could help me please? Could someone please tell me the name of the song that Julianne and Helio danced to for their 2nd Chacha (all dressed in red) and also the name of the music Mel and Maks used for their Mambo?

Thanks very much in advance for your help!

The Cha Cha in red is called "Roller Coaster of Love" or sometimes called "Love Rollercoaster", recorded in 1975 by the Ohio Players, hence the flares on Helio!
The DWTS Band and Singers make such a good job of these kinds of tracks.

The Mambo music used to be very popular for the Cha Cha in years past, both in the Ballroom and a former British Ice Dance couple used it too, circa 1990, that I still have on tape.....I've tried searching but I just can't find the title!!!!

If I do, will post asap, or hopefully quacka or Stella will know, they're usually very good with music titles.

This is another thing I'd add to what DWTS has over SCD the band seems to be much better, they don't seem to destroy so many good songs.

Much as I really like Julianne, was gutted that she won as it meant somebody had matched my favourite dancer Cheryl with the two wins in a row trophy.

Dancing with the Stars is much much better than SCD and the quality of the professional dancers is much better too IMHO. Love Dancing with the Stars, hate SCD and Brucie!!

I'm putting my favourite SCD and DWTS tunes on my MP3, then I try not to skip along to the music when I walk down the street listening to my MP3 (you get funny looks from people if you do!!)

Nearly everywhere it is known as Dancing With The Stars or Dance With the Stars or Dances With Stars (in Finland). Other names are...

Germany and Slovakia "Let's Dance"
Norway "Shall We Dance"
Portugal "Dance With Me"
Serbia "Dance to the Dreams"
Turkey "Look, Who is Dancing"
Sweden "Let's Dance, Okay?"

Interestingly, the Serbian version partners a celebrity with a member of the public and the couple are trained by a professional dancer.

Norway "Shall We Dance"
What a lovely title!

Turkey "Look, Who is Dancing"
I sincerely hope it's a better show than their awful version of Dancing on Ice!

Sweden "Let's Dance, Okay?"
Okay!

Interestingly, the Serbian version partners a celebrity with a member of the public and the couple are trained by a professional dancer.
How interesting, and a nice twist and variation on the original theme.

Thanks for the info Quizmike.

The equivalent on ice, DOI, has also taken off tremendously around the world, the most watched being the Russian version....or rather 2 versions, as some countries (Germany also) have 2 versions of the show, DOI and the American Stars on Ice, often running simultaneously, like in Holland.

I watched and enjoyed the very first Dutch/Belgian co-production of DOI, which was brill, and am looking forward to series 2 of Germany's Stars auf Eis starting next week on Pro 7 via satellite, with Katerina Witt. The first series last year was alot of fun.

Great Britain has changed the face of Light Entertainment TV around the world!! Hurrah!!

Absolutely, they sound much slicker, as though they've rehearsed fully, and stepped in admirably when Gloria Estefan had to pull out of the Results Show suddenly, due to her Mother being taken ill, and one of the female singers sang a Gloria song which the pros danced to, and no-one even noticed the difference!

Ah! Let them look!
That sounds a fab idea, and you're very welcome.

Hope the Mambo title turns up soon.

Mel and Maks' mambo was danced to Mambo Jambo by Perez Prado.

Love Rollercoaster was also recorded by the Red Hot Chili Peppers, which is a version I personally like a lot.

Some news on Mark Ballas' injury & recovery. Also, his father posted news yesterday as well about the surgery(I believe it was originally on his site.)

Surgery Report from Learning2dance Corky Ballas

Dancing With The Stars, star MarkBallas had an extremely successful surgery today. Surgery was performed by Master Surgeon Dr. Neal S Elattrache MD. Doctor Elattrache was recommended by infamous Suzanne Saperstein. Dr Elattrace has performed surgery for Los Angeles Dodgers pitchers and other famous athletes.

The Suzanne and David Saperstein Critical Care Tower was open in 2005. Mark's surgery was schedule for one hour, Dr Elattrache said, I breezed through the surgery in 30 minutes, everything fell into place, Mark is going to recover to 100%.

Mark Ballas said, "I am feeling a little bit of pain, but I plan to go to the DWTS tour rehearsal tomorrow to learn my parts". "While I am healing my blood brother Derek Hough is going to dance with Sabrina and I am helping Derek learn the choreography".

"I look forward to dancing again in full swing on the tour, Derek and I will be doing post Almost Amy shows after some of the tour shows, hope to meet some of you lovely people, thanks for your support".

The surgery that was performed on Dec 5th at 12 noon, was Operative Arthroscopic Anterior Inferior Labal repair to Mark's left shoulder.

We are all very happy the surgery was a success as we all were praying for Mark's surgery, and now we are praying for a quick recovery.

Thank you all for your concern and care, your heartfelt warm feeling towards Mark has really made a big difference.

Live and Dance With Passion

I was just going to edit, but I guess it's on a timer. Jeez, I seem to be posting all Sabrina all the time. I swear I'm not an obsessed fan. Anyway, they just posted a new videoblog on the Team Sabrina Youtube page. It's post surgery from the DwTS tour rehearsals and also has a cute cameo from Derek.

Good Luck Mark *sending healing vibes*.

We actually had a clip of Karina & Floyd's Jive on the main BBC 6 O'clock News this evening!! It was a preview of the big fight in Las Vegas this weekend, and the reporter said "he's more famous as a dancer in America" LOL!

Well, having criticised many aspects of SCD this season, I felt it only right and proper that I commented on how stupendous the Grand Final was and beat the DWTS Finale hands down this season.

I would urge any American posters to check out the youtube clips, or get a download if you can, as all 10 dances were superb!

Both couples performed 5 different dances, one as a foursome on the floor, a beautiful Viennese Waltz, each doing highlights in turn, which was glorious as you could directly compare the celeb man leading the female pro up against the male pro leading the female celeb, and he didn't come up short at all!

The 2 Ballrooms, 2 Latins, a Judge's Choice (the Quickstep on that was fantastic with a bit of Tap thrown in!)

And you will not be disappointed with the 2 Showdances which were stunning! Proper Ballroom rhythm dancing aswell as tricks and lifts!

Would love to hear what you guys think of it, in comparison, and I think on this occasion, DWTS could pick up a few tips from SCD.

Pic of Rachel Hunter and Brendan Cole dancing the Rhumba in the 2005 Christmas Special of Strictly, the last time celebs from DWTS came over to participate.

Boxer Evander Holyfield also danced with Karen Hardy.
