Video not appearing in itunes library.

I copied the video from a dvd-single onto my hard drive using dvd-decrypter. When I try to import it into itunes nothing happens. Have tried 'add file to library' and 'import',and neither will work. The video just does not appear in the itunes folder nor in the library.

What format did you rip it to?

iPods can only handle one or two video formats ....

(Check the Apple website if you want the specifics ... H264 up to certain resolution and so on ...)

Chances are, now that you've ripped it, you'll have to convert the resulting rip to an Apple friendly format.

I use erightsofts SUPER to convert videos to ipod format, never had this problem before.

Thought:unless it's because I forced the aspect ratio to 16:9,which was the ratio of the original video.

Further edit: yep, just converted it again leaving the ar on 4:3 and it's ok now.

I tried SUPER (used to use it for converting stuff for my phone and that always worked OK) when the wife wanted some video on her iPod for going to Canada.

Never did get it to work properly.

Switched to Videora and it all worked fine first time ....

So does everyone look 8 feet tall now or does it crop the edges as well?

Lol,you were right, when I transferred the video to my ipod it looked wrong. I then tried converting it with an ar of 16:9 again and it worked ok this time,so I'm still none the wiser as to what the original problem was. Still,it's sorted now.

Your ripped file is VOB file, iTunes didn't accept it. If you stick with freeware, you can use SUPER to convert it to MP4 video, and then add it to iTunes library.
I'd prefer using Aimersoft DVD Ripper, it can rip DVD to MP4 directly, it's not free, but it works really nice for me, here is a step by step guide about it

If you just want it in your iTunes library for viewing on your computer you can save it in a .mov (as opposed to say .avi) wrapper (self contained or linking to the original) and as long as it plays in quicktime you'll be able to play it in iTunes.

That's exactly what I did,but for some reason on my first attempt it was refusing to add the MP4 version to the library.
