My Philips 36" has Pixel Plus and it's fine. I can switch it off, and go to 50Hz, but then I see a shimmer and the line structure. Watching programmes like "Home and Away" (sorry) which has obviously been made for HD (with gratuitous living room panning shots included...) and crisp studio feeds from BBC News 24 make me think, I couldn't do better than this.
I don't believe the "incorrectly set-up" argument works, as in proper department stores or showrooms, I have seen them displaying Freeview pictures (generated internally) or Sky pictures where available. Now correct me if I'm wrong, but problems with a Freeview signal would result in wholescale blocking or freezing wouldn't it? Not irritating buzziness or noise around scrolling text or footballers in motion. And yets what they all seem to have (granted the Sony ones I have seen seemed to me to be some of the best of the bunch as far as LCD was concerned).
It's true I would like a bigger picture but am in a quandry as I really don't want to see artefacting or pixellation where there was none before. That really would be a problem purchase!”
what you forget to mention there is that in these stores with all the bright lights and that they have them set on the brightest settings possible - which you would never have at home, you need to spend some time playing with the settings and getting it just right to your environment.
a Panasonic screen out of the box is set to dynamic - its terrible the colors are too rich the brightness is too high and generally look terrible. go into currys or comet and there running in dynamic mode - most of the peeps working in there wouldn't even know how to change the screen mode
i have most of my settings on -
im sorry but again i say go-to a proper AV specialist where they have rooms in a similar environment as you would at home and you can bring your own dvd player etc and watch.
i went here -
http://www.av-sales.co.uk/ for my demo and had 3 screens setup with my dvd player and at the time playstation 2.
if your serious about upgrading then i suggest you go to a similar place otherwise your gonna be with your crt for years and years to come if you just keep going to currys to look at the latest technology.
