Please tell me about any bad hair horror stories you might have.

I got a drastic cut yesterday. I'd let my hair get quite out of control and it had grown so wildly it just needed hacking off so that it can re-grow nicer.

The cut looked okay in the salon but today, the day after, I hate it. It's far too short for my liking and if it wasn't for the fact that my hair grows extremely fast, I'd be quite upset right now.

So yes, please tell me of hair disasters to make me feel better. I'm sure my story pales compared to some others must have! They can be about you directly or people you know, whichever.

ah well i was a teenager in the eighties, so there are probably too many to mention.. whenever i watch that episode of friends where chandler mentions his "flock of seaguls" haircut i always smile cos i had one of those, and it was horrendous!! i have had it died black, blue, green, and spent many months as a studen covering it completely with a kaftan!

by the way, i am now almost completely bald, so i suppose that is just devine retribution (though mrs iw prefers me this way!!)

I once had to go on army training with a pink fringe. I don't now what I was thinking. I had mega long blonde hair with a pink fringe! I got some funny looks!

But if you want to feel better;

How is the Gail Porter comment in any way appropriate?!

She has an illness and its not funny at all

Hardly bad...I once paid a fortune for a hairdresser to do what looked like nothing to my hair, looked exactly the same!

Now.

I haven't washed it since Friday morning as an experiment. I usually have to wash it every day or it gets greasy. I feel vile, but I'm off work for a week, so I'll see (I'm not off work because of this )

Because my hair is really fine, it has all clumped together, feels shit and looks really bad. I have to wear a hat, which isn't too much hassle since I wear them occasionally, anyway.

Yep the Gail Porter comment was uncalled for unless you didn't know about her medical condition.

Just had my worst haircut today actually, I'm usually reasonably satisfied but today they just missed a bit of hair at the front which was longer than the rest of my hair. Naturally I had to some DIY hairdressing and I'm lot happier now, needless to say I won't be going back there again.

Same happened to me ages ago. I think it's almost as annoying as them doing a bad job.

I once allowed a friend to cut my hair. That was fun.

I dyed my hair once, and it came out dark auburn-pretty dark red actually. It's naturally dark blonde, so this was a dramatic change. I walked round the house with a towel wrapped round my head, crying, for hours, before I let any one see it.

I've never done more than highlight it ever since.

When I was about 8, I didn't brush my hair properly and I got a knot in the back of my hair and it ended up having to be cut out So I had uneven hair, but it was too hard to brush out (even 3 hairdressers could not do it ) because my hair is curly.

And I let a drunk friend cut me a side fringe one time

On the tube, I once had two women point at me and be doubled over with laughter because a haircut I'd had was so appalling. (If anyone else got their hair 'jetted' in the 1980s and have formed a support group, I'd like to join.)

I'm so glad I wasn't old enough in the eighties to give a monkeys about my hair! I was still too into playing in the mud and watching cartoons to care about much else even when the eighties ended.

I once put henna on my hair even though it was already bleached platinum blonde. It went bright orange, obviously.
Also in the 80s (weren't the 80s responsible for just about everything bad - hair, make up and fashion wise? ) I had a woman come round to the house and perm it in that style where it was short at the back and sides and permed on top. The perm actually sort of singed bits of my hair at the front, so in amongst the perm you could see little stubbly bits.

Oh where to start with the hair horror stories The Purdy... the Kevin Keegan perm... the Farrah Fawcett... the Feather cut...

I'm now nearly 50 and dyed my hair at the weekend. Sadly my eyesight isn't what it was and this is the result. I got the wrong box...

I haven't had my hair cut professionally for years for fear of stories like yours..... I just put it into a ponytail and cut the ends of once every couple of months..

Ahh the 80's.

The decade of back combed hair, covered in a complete can of Elnet! Crimped hair and lopsided fringes. Phil Oakey's got a lot to answer for on that one!!!

I even went into a salon that certain members of a very popular girl band went into in the 80's and asked for my hair to be cut like the bass players. No I'm not mentioning the name of the band!!! lol.

I'm glad my hair survived all that abuse it took back then.

Well after this I'm just going to grow it and only get trims. There seem to be so many hairdressers who don't know what they're doing, or they're so opinionated they give you what THEY want, not what you asked for.

Never, ever cut your own hair, especially when you've been drinking vodka. It'll take me ages to grow this mess out.

Oh yeah. I cut it so badly I can't even tie it in a pony tail anymore to hide the mess. I just have to walk around with my hair sticking up all over the show. It's too short to even go to a hairdressers with. I just have to wait until it grows out a bit! I had lovely long hair before this. I don't know what I was thinking. Must've seemed like a good idea at the time!

Sometimes it just gets SO tempting to shave my head and just slap on a fun pink wig like Britney Spears.

It's very liberating. Try it.
