laptop on toshiba
I have a Toshiba 32 WLT66S LCD TV which has a socket which allows me to hook up my laptop to it.
The trouble is its not displaying a picture from my laptop. I have the TV set on PC mode and the leads are in tightly. The funny thing is that the only time the TV shows a picture from my laptop is when I close down or put the laptop into hibernation, I then get the usual windows shutting down screen. Apart from that, I get nothing at all. I cant understand why the TV doesn't show my laptop desktop or anything for that matter but it does show when I am shutting down? Has anyone any ideas on what is going on or what I can do to get the TV to work with my laptop. |

It is the display settings on your laptop.
You will have to set it up to use dual display - where laptop and TV have the same thing displayed ot extended desktop... where the tv can be used to display someting different. Do you have XP or Vista? Or something else

Thanks riando...what I forgot to say is that the laptop is set up correctly. I have hooked it up to a couple of old monitors and it works ok. So the problem lies with the TV.

You need to change the screen resolution settings on the laptop.
Only certain settings work when outputting to the tv. Fortunately my laptop automatically changes the settings when i plug the vga connector in, but i have experimented with all the different settings. Its funny, to get the clearest pic on my tv screen, i have to choose a setting which makes the picture look terrible on the laptop screen! Cant remember off the top of my head which screen resolutions work and which ones dont, but just experiment with them. The only annoying thing to note is that you cant get a widescreen output. Ive got a widescreen laptop, but it only displays the picture in 4:3, and then letterboxes. There's no way around this, unless you choose a screen resolution that fills the tv screen, but then its zoomed in too much and you lose some of picture. |
