£11 for line rental
£1.75 for clid
£25 for 4 MB broadband.

=37.75 / month.

ive done a bit of research and found that it would cost...
£10.50 for BT line rental
free caller ID
and sky do free broadband, or slightly better broadband for £5

so thats about 10 or 15 quid. what a difference!
and with BT you can use cheaper call divert schemes.

sounds worth it dont it? (unelss have to pay 125 fee to reactivate line)

BT - £10.50 for 'line rental' (BT Together Option 1);

BT - 9p for 'nearly free' Caller Display (2 evening or weekend UK 01/02 calls of less than an hour per month with a 1280 prefix - 2.5p each);

Primus - £0.00 to CPS my calls to Primus Saver Option 2 (free evening and weekend UK 01/02 calls of up to 90 minutes);

BT - £14.99 for up to 8mb broadband.

There are, of course, other options open to you with a BT line.

Find out if you have to pay BT a connection fee. If you don't then you could got the BT route.

Call up VM go through to retentions and tell them you want to cancel the phone service as it's too expensive and that with BT and Primus you can get line rental, evening and weekend calls and caller display for £10.50 per month.

Find a decent priced broadband service and throw that at them too.

They should offer you a deal.

I'm getting phone line rental, evening and weekend calls and caller display for free from them.

I have always advised to either use VoIP on a cable broadband service or use a BT line and the likes of Primus and 18185.

I was VoIP only for 2 years after using BT, 1899 and a free evening and weekend calls provider, the only reason I use cable for phone for now is they offered it me for free for as long as I stay with them and they installed it free too. I just use them for the free calls and VoIP for the others.

If you can get a good deal might be worth it, if not move away.

Note VM are increasing their costs from November.

I would have to pay the BT 124.99 connection fee (the bt socket has been totally disconnected)

we hardly use the landline for outgoing calls, as we all have mobiles with about a million free minutes each.

the main reason we are thinking of changing is to take advantage of the cheap/free broadband services from companies like sky and orange.

but if we are going to have to pay 124.99 to get the bt line reactivated, then it hardly seems worth it!

IMHO I would steer clear from BT due to their inept customer service...see my other thread. But it's your choice....I just wished I'd never got involved with them in the first place....Virgin Media have been fantastic in comparison.

to be honest we have never had any complaints about ntl / virgin medias service / customer service.

our only real complaint is the price of broadband, etc. adsl seems so much cheaper than cable broadband.

Yeah, the costs of Virgin Media are going up and up.

If you can't get a discount - I got my discount by going through to retentions and telling them what I could get elsewhere. Admittedly because VM rip you off on calls outside the package you can end up paying 1000%+ more than if you had a BT line and made calls to these numbers.

The minimum charge you'll get hit by to call T-Mobile for example during the day at the weekend will be 32p!

OK even with a VirginMedia line you can use Call 18185 to get their weekend rate of 3p/min + 4p connection, but the rate during the weekday is 10p/min compared to 6p/min if it was a BT you were accessing 18185 from.

VM charge £3.95 soon to be £3.45 for inclusive evening and weekend calls, but with Primus that will be £0.00 / month, plus daytime rate doesn't kick in until 08:00 and not 06:00.

Have a read through the link from Heinz - if you want to save huge amounts on your phone bill, that's the way to go.

I got Virgin phone and broadband installed in May, 2 for £20 offer when i couldn't get Sky broadband in my area. Now that Sky Broadband is available in my area i would be tempted to go for the extra £10 per month on my Sky bill to get the 16mb unlimited downloads package, because when my Virgin contract is up it will be £11 line rental and £18 for
2mb broadband.

I only got my BT line switched off in May this year, does anyone know how much it would cost to switch back to BT, just for curiosity sake?

Haven't heard from them in over 8 days since placing order. Called up to cancel, and the Indian woman said their was no order from me. She said if anyone from BT calls up, just confirm with them i want to cancel

Was on hold to BT for an hour the other night, before some guy cut me off because HE COULDNT UNDERSTAND ME!

BT are maxed out at the moment.. utterly bursting at the seams.. monopolising.. and probably getting thousands of complaints a day. They dont seem to have the resources to cope with the number of customers

Bottom line: If I was in A VM area.. I'd bloody well stick with it Even if it is more expensive!

Yes, BT are busy at the moment because thousands are leave Virgin each month. Others are leaving other provider to take their line rental back to BT as this gives them more options.

We've gone back to BT with Option one £10.50 but we have our tv, calls and broadband with sky after ditching the terrible service Virgin Media provided us with.
