What connections will I need on home cinema

Have decided to probably get a sony 40d3000 (or perhaps a panny 42PX70). Only watch DVD and freeview.

The Sony is available at the moment with some of their home cinema systems bundled, but I want to know that I will be able to put all my sources through it.

Firstly how does the sound from the TV tuner get to the home cinema ?

The other sources I want to connect are a freeview PVR which has 2 scarts and R/L phono leads, and a DVDrecorder that has 2 scarts, R/L phonox2, optical and coax audio.

Was planning to get a home cinema with the DVD player as it has upscaling on it, which I presume will give me better quality playback on the TV than my existing DVDR, and would use a HDMI to connect this.

What conectors do I need to ensure that the home cinemas has so that I can connect this all. Some of the cheaper systems only seem to have HDMI and one set of R/L phono which doesnt seem enough.

You need to check what audio ouputs each of your pieces of kit has, the same way that you have done with your Freeview box and your DVD player.

Most TVs have RCA left and right stereo output, so the AV amp must have at least one of these.
DVD players generally support optical, coaxial and even HDMI, but if you intend to feed the signal from your upscaling DVD straight to your TV via HDMI then you need one of the other two digital inputs on your amp - again, the model of DVD player that you get will dictate what inputs your amp must have.

Your Freeview box only has RCA left and right output, so that's a second one that you need on the amp. Alternatively, if you are feeding the signal from the TV to amp using stereo, you might not need to connect your Freeview box direct to your amp - the Freeview provides audio to the TV, which then provides audio to your amp. The same goes for your VCR, if such a thing still exists.

But think about the future - might you ever get Sky+ or Sky HD? These only supply DD5.1 via optical - so you need a spare optical on the amp. Are you ever likely to want to connect a games module to your amp? Again, I think most of today's consoles provide optical output.
