Recommend a small (~23") LCD

Hi,

I'm in the market for a smallish (around 23") LCD TV for use in the bedroom. Ideally I would like HD (although I don't have an HD source I want this for future-proofing), and built-in Freeview.

So far I've found the Samsung LE23R87BDX, which ticks all the boxes, but at £389 seems a bit pricey.

Does anyone have any recommendations or dis-recommendations?

Thanks,

Ben.

Note that a lot of the cheap small-screen LCD TVs are actually monitor panels and do not have the correct TV aspect ratio.

For example, the Samsung has a resolution of 1366x768 which is 16:9, which is correct for a TV.

The LG linked on Ebuyer above is 1680x1050, which is 16:10. (Also, I don' t think it has internal Freeview? )

The effect will be that TV broadcasts, DVDs etc, will look slightly squashed horizontally (long and thin people).

Whether it matters or not is up to you - I have a 17" Daewoo TV which isn't the correct resolution but it's OK as a second TV in a little-used room.

Yeah, I've done ebuyer.com, pricerunner.co.uk, all of that sort of thing.

The Samsung still jumps out at me as the best feature set, but it annoys me that the 26" version of this model is only another £10. I don't need (or want) the 26", so I feel as if the 23" should be cheaper!

I do want to try and stick with a "proper" TV, so the 16:9 aspect ratio is important, as well as having a decent set of inputs (HDMI, Scart, component etc.).

It's a matter of scale - 17 inch CRT's were always considerably more expensive than 21 inch CRT's, simply because of the differing qualtities sold.

23 inch sets have much smaller sales figures than 26 inch.
